That's a pretty astounding investment right there. I'm amazed sometimes at how much dedication people can have for volunteer activities that benefit others. Very encouraging, if you asked me!

I'd like to build Atlas Jr, with 4 GTX260's, but that's still too much electricity. I was adding a motherboard a year for a while, but I doubt I will be doing that anymore either.

GTX295 have heat (ergo noise) issues unless you plan on water cooling, which adds to much to starup costs. And getting the second GPU started isn't a joy either.

There were a few hoops to jump through but getting a second GPU running wasn't horrible, just maybe not as easy as you'd like. The "dummy plug" requirement had me stumped briefly until I found instructions for making one with (1) no soldering iron and (2) from parts (except for some resistors) I had already.

The thing that ultimately bit me was that the two cards need to either have the same number of stream processors or the larger one had to have exactly two (or three) times as many, i.e. one with 64 and the other with 128. I have two GPUs folding but the output from one is lower than it was when running alone.

The heat and noise of running more than one card are a challenge to a quiet system. I decided I could run a maximum of two and hope to keep both within limits I could live with.
