I don't know why my production level suddenly decided to jump as the last time I made any changes to my set up was a month ago. I think this was a pretty cocky move on mine so I took down some machines to see if I can go back to my normal production level and to save some electricity.

I just decided to start folding again, not gonna be anywhere near y'all though, I am just running the GPU client on my underclocked 4830. I guess a little folding is better than no folding.

Haha, I should start folding on my Eee too! How do you set it up to only fold when it is plugged in?

I don't really travel a lot with it lately, I got it before the recession killed all the travel budgets, so it's pretty much always plugged in. Which is good, because it's running for about 6 days on a 255 WU for about 40 ppd. But it helps, right?

I had about 5 machines running at a time at home, which ranged from Pentium 4's to a Phenom X4. I have noticed that my production level has dropped to my usual level since I turned them all off. A bunch of Core 2's are still folding for me at school.

So you really did turn a bunch of your machines off? What spurred that? Just wanted to let me take the production lead, or what?

Wow. I did not see you coming. How is the view up there?

I wanted to fold as part of the team, so I shut off all of my machines at home to go back down to my usual production level. I am not implying that no one should be sitting on top of the board, I just thought that it was a little out of the line in my case, although it was unintentional.

Watch my rearview mirror? It's really more like keeping an eye out for your windshield to come knock me out of the air. I'm hoping to get a little more of a boost when/if I get another machine up this weekend, but the new aggregate won't come close to your top ppd, or even the spikes you seem to have. I'll enjoy it while I can!

Ouch, that windshield hurt! Ah well, the machine I got set up this weekend may bump me up a little, although it has been giving me trouble. First I couldn't get the motherboard NIC to set up a reliable network connection. Swapped in a card for it, now it seems to be working fine. But it was working on one WU yesterday and it just died at around 30%. Pretty annoying. Ah well, if I can get it up reliably, it might give me something like 1800ppd, which would nudge me up a little. See how it goes.

I (now entirely) depend on school machines for folding. They always go offline one by one due to other people using them and other such reasons. So it has always been how often I visited the lab to restart the clients that governed where my production level lied.

When I noticed that my rank dipped to around 5th or so, I felt safe and visited the lab and restarted a bunch of clients. My production level is creeping up again as the result.

It is amazing to see how the team grows. When I joined the team around 5 months ago or so, the team had only about 4 folders with over 10,000 PPD, the highest being around 13,000. Now look at the team! At this pace you or anyone else will easily take me down any given day. So I am not worried.

School machines... is there a portable client? At least at my school we can't install anything. It would be quite nice to be able to fold while I am at work/school. (I work at my school)

I believe that the basic console client for Windows is portable by nature. I just extracted the downloaded file and called it in the command prompt.

It would have been nice if the SMP client was as portable, so I don't have to run 4 instances of the basic client per machine.

Yes and no. There are more big boys now (big for us) but the total number of people folding has dropped significantly. If they can't afford it then so be it, but I hope they didn't stop because of low points. We used to have about 125 folders, and were hard pressed to get 100,000 PPD, average about 800+ points per person. Now the per person average is almost 2400.

I just wish people would look more into GPU folding if points are a concern. People latelty are gpu folding with integrated video, so startup and run costs couldn't be lower.

I think some of you guys passed me just to get me to install that last 9600GSO.

I've got a 4830 on a 780G board and I use both (4 displays); should I be running a second GPU client or something?
