I am getting tons of Tinker. Sucks big time. Made me yellow :(

Right now here at work I have 4 Tinkers and 2 Gromacs. Killing me.

TRC must have escaped the Tinkers - we had our first 9000 point day yesterday.

Who would'a thunk it...

We've hit #30!

Congratulations team!

Now, we need to crank it up a bit more to stay ahead of SloTech and VapoChill... We need more ACTIVE members -- please?

yeah really.

we need our greys to start working.

I have 3 boxes although only one is on 24/7 and it's my gaming box.

Damn you Tinker!!! (Yelled with head pointed to the sky and fist shaking)
I am inundated with Tinkers. I am all for science, but these things are ridiculous. 70 pts for 60 hours of work?

Green boxes are the Tinkers. Only the laptop currently has a Gromacs.

I'm considering joining the folding team, BUT, I don't want my CPU to be at 100% load at all times. Does F@H come in a light-version or something like that, if you understand what I mean?

You can set the maximum proc % in the advanced settings.

Cool, now how do I start folding?

Download the Windows graphical client. Install. Use Team 31574, make up a username. Check the advanced tab for your settings on proc %. If you use a proxy server, be sure to put that stuff in. Start a thread in the folding forum here if you have any problems :)

It doesn't slow down your work!

Hello Henrik:

Running Folding@Home command line client does *not* slow down your computer while you are using it for other things! It defaults to only running when the computer is otherwise idle. So, it only uses 100% (or nearly 100%) IF you are not already using the computer for *anything* else. So if you are using 25% of the CPU to do something else, then F@H stops altogether for those times, and therefore you should not notice any slowdowns at all.

SETI@Home, OTOH, is set to Low, so that you do notice a bit of a slowdown. On slower computers it is much more noticable -- but Folding @Home doesn't have this effect.

Or, are you concerned about using 100% of the CPU when you are not using the computer -- like overnight?

I've gotten a few of those -- but now my fast machine has a cool GROMACS: 602 P913 is 65 points in ~18 hours! :-D

Well, sort of. A good thing is that the more I read this forum the more I learn. My PC is getting more & more quiet so soon I might be able to use it for folding overnight on a more regular basis . My temps are also a lot more stable now, which is always a good thing. My only concern now is my modded PSU. The temp of the exhausted air is a bit to high for comfort.

I've been out of work over a year. Made me blue. :(

When will Slo-Tech pass us?

Hey team!

We are due to move up to #28 on or about October 14th -- and then about a month later we may get passed by Slo-Tech and bumped back down to #29...

We can't let this happen! We need about 1,100-1,200 more points per week to stay ahead of them. Which means if we had a dozen or two more ACTIVE members, we'd be all set...

C'mon Team!

Or current members get mo' pc's going....

Working on that, should have another by this w/e.
Famous last words on my part.

Not for quite some time. They results they got from the first few rounds have raised more questions, and they are looking more closely at some older projects. That's why we are seeing the recent rush of tinkers cores.

not for quite a lot of time. There was an article posted in here earlier... in it, it said they've got 100,000 computers folding at any one time, but some proteins they'd like to fold will require ten times more power.

Up another position! SPCR passed kcgeek today. Way to go!

Looks like our next conquest may take a couple of months and we may get overrun by Slo-Tech before that happens.

Time for me to figure out how to get my Cobalt Qube to fold! Only a 450MHz K6-2, but it looks like I'll need it if I'm going to stave off the pursuit by demo and ever have a chance of catching DryFire.

well my 2800+ was down for repairs for awhile. I hope on geting my spare 1800 + up and running soon.

that way you;'ll never catch me!

Heh.

My to-be-watercooled YY Cube project has an XP2500 that's shown good overclocking potential already. I put in DDR433 memory and it's run at a 433 FSB with just the stock (YUCK!) AMD HSF. I haven't stress-tested it yet because of the wimpy cooling, but it did manage to boot and run XP at 433 with an 11X multiplier.

You're safe for awhile, but eventually the afterburner will get lit on this sucker! 8)

Right now I'm just running my home XP1900 24/7, my XP2000 laptop ~8hrs/day, and my oldest daughter's XP1800 whenever she has it on. My youngest daughter has been begging for a PC, too, so I'll probably throw something together for her and let my ex-wife pay the electric bill on it while it folds

I want to see what TRC-13 is running for his 700+ points/day. F@H stats says 30 CPUs, but he still gets some pretty healthy scores every 3 hours even with just 1 upload. If F@H ever releases a SPARC/Solaris client I'll be in Borg heaven!

well i lost a 1.8 ghz p4 m yesterday so i will start to fall behind.

i'm trying to find a good mobo that is cheap for my 1800+ maybe i'll get a new folding node.

If you're not going to overclock it, then almost anything will do. I'm currently enamored with the Asus A7N8X Deluxe. Not much for undervolting, but great for overclocking.

I've been wondering if it's possible to get cheap laptop motherboards without the displays (or keyboards, ideally) and hook them up to a KVM switch, running off a common power supply for a stack of folding nodes. I'm looking around EBay...

I show having 30 PC’s on the stats when in reality I have 22. The reason it shows more is that I can not leave things alone and am constantly tinkering with my boxes to try and get my points up. Often the machine gets a new ID causing the number of computers to go up. I have mostly AMD XP boxen and they do most of the work running the DOS client with the "-advmethods -forceasm" switches turned on. I do have a few P4’s in the mix also. And they do seem to do a bit better on the Tinker cores. Most of the boxen run XP Pro but I do have some of my slower boxen running NT4. I tell you what though, my power comany loves me with all these computers heating my house for the winter. Luckily most of them are in my basement. 8)

1x Dual AMD MP 2600+ (2 Clients)
4x AMD Barton XP 2800+
5x AMD Athlon XP 2000+
2x AMD Athlon XP 1800+
4x AMD Duron 1.3 GHz
2x Intel P4 2.26 GHz
1x Intel P4 1.8 GHz
1x Intel Celeron 1.3GHz
1x Intel P3 1.0GHz

YOW! Now that's a lot of hardware!

I figured you'd borged your way around the office or something, not built a small nuke plant in your basement

Obviously my best move is to build Barton 2500s OCed to 3200 or more for both of my kids and let my ex-wife pay the electric bill on those  Right now my oldest has an XP1800 and I'm rebuilding an original Athlon 700 for my youngest. If the lottery would cooperate, then I'd go with MP boxes for both of them...

I still haven't found anything that looks like a potential folding-farm candidate in a bare laptop motherboard. I'd think that a <80W power budget per board (probably much less without the display) would keep the electric bill under control. Don't think I haven't been looking at the racks of blade servers in the Linux magazines, though. Does anybody know if crime really doesn't pay?

Does this sort of folding obsession happen often? Can I be cured? Should I be cured?

i have an xp 2500 that will form the basis of a htpc just sitting in the cellar head folding. it seems a waste of money but it has doubled my production. and the cas ei have at the moment is so loud that the celar head is only place i am willing to have it switched on.

Try it and tell us. Depends on the forums... but I'd say yes. I hope not. Most definately not.
