It looks like we're going to reach 1,000,000 points in about 9 days. The big question is whether we're going to beat Team MacOS X to that mark. It's going to be very close. Come on, we can't get beat by a bunch of Macheads. So, it's time to turn the Panaflos up to 12V and push the FSB pedal to the metal. It's okay, we'll still be quieter than everyone else.

I'm going to get a few more P3-class machines going, although only temporarily, to help out. Sorry Cosine, you're going to have to wait a few more days to pass me. I challenge you to still do it by October 5th!

I'm down in the listings (#89 right now), but I've consistently been green. Not sure if I can really set up on any systems at work besides my own. I'm one of two IT guys here, but I'm not sure how my boss/friend/coworker would feel about Folding.

What's more annoying is that my AMDs at home have been taking 30-50 hours per WU recently. Grrrr.... I seem to remember a few months ago when I'd get stuff done in 20 hours. Only hope the points are appropriate. Doesn't look like I'll make Yellow with my current rigs though, gonna have to find some more.

Still think we should send out contacts to the folks who haven't produced a work unit in a few weeks. There's quite a few that seem to have stopped in the last 2-3 weeks. That would definitely be why our production line has flattened out all the way.

Zyzzyx - I'm at #50 and you're on my threats - keep it comming!

The hurricaine must have stopped some people too - there's a couple of folks that stopped for a week or so that are now back folding (khayyam) - oh wait, his profile says he lives in Seattle too - no excuses then!

I don't know if this is the suitable tread, but anyway, here goes: Where do you guys get all your colours from and someone, please explain "borging" in detail.

"borging" would be the process of getting additional machines up and running the client in your name for the team (work, family, friend)

I hit yellow for a bit when I had all my boxes running.. right now I'm only running one cpu but I'll try and get my proxy problems sorted so I can get a few more boxes.

What bugs me though is that it our overall production trend is dropping. Not cool...

I'm getting TINKERS over and over again.. I've heard these types of units tend to give less points for each work unit.. is that accurate?

So far I've had GROMACS (?) units and I've noticed I've got more points than most users I pass yet have processed less units. (MWUAHAHA!)

I'm not sure of the points of Tinkers vs Gromacs, but what I have heard is that the system tends to swing back and forth sometimes, depending on what molecules they're looking at. Thing is, if you're getting more Tinkers, mostly everyone else is as well.

Sort of ...

If you have a Pentium 2 (or equivalent or older) then it doesn't matter what (Tinker or Gromacs) you fold - your points/cpu hour will be constant. If you have a CPU with SSE, 3DNow or better then the Gromacs core will use those opcodes, and so result in higher points/cpu hour. (especially if you set the -forceasm flag)

ps: set the -advmethods flag to improve chances of getting Gromacs.

About 80% to 90% of all work units I have been getting for the past week or two have been those damn Tinkers! My production is down to what my top two boxes should do by themselves and there is no sign of this clearing up. I have even started to shut down boxes that are going on 2 days for 15 F*@!ing points! It’s just not worth the power bill. I hope this ends soon so I can get back up near 1000 ppd and help push us forward in the ranks.

Curious: each of my 3 boxen does about 1 unit a day so I've seen about 21 units in the last week. And they have all been Gromacs. I cant remember the last time I saw a Tinker.

I have 10 processors running here a work. 5 are gro, 5 are tink.

We're going to reach the mark within the next 15 hours or so. Unfortunately, Team MacOS X will beat us there by about 500 points unless we have a lot of machines turning in big units today. If it wasn't for all those Tinkers, we probably would have beat them. Oh well, we will fly on by them regardless, leaving them wondering what caused that whoosing sound and light breeze.

those tinkers are murder on amd machines.
my dad's 1.8 ghz p4 m though just flys through them.

Most of my boxen have finally started to chew on Gromacs again and my points are on the rebound. Hopefully we will all gain enough points to beat Team MacOS X to the 1,000,000 point mark. I am running mostly AMD boxen with the CLI and the “ -advmethods –forceasm” switches turned on. My P4 1.8 hasn’t seen a Tinker yet so I don’t know how it performs on them. If the P4 does work on Tinkers like a charm I may move all future Tinkers to it and let my AMD boxen work on the Gromacs. I’ll have to try that with the next Tinker I see.

Hmm... It'd be interesting to see how well my P3-566 does on a Tinker compared to my noticeably faster AMD 1600.

Have to set up a test sometime.

Team Mac OS X is only 1016 away. We're closing on it faster, but it's hard to tell who will get there first.

Arrrrrrrghhhhhh, it looks like Team MacOS X is going to barely beat us to 1,000,000 points. Oh well, they could only do it with 100 more CPUs. We closed in a lot this afternoon and at 6pm PDT they were only about 40 points ahead. Now at 7pm PDT they're about 70 points ahead and only 35 points away.

Their celebration should be short-lived though, as we will tear past them right afterwards. Although I'm pleasantly surprised that we made it this close, I'm kicking myself for not setting up another machine to run the past few days. Here's to everyone who pushed that much harder.

Just for the record me thinks that they beat us to 1M..
