Need starter/newbie guide

Post by ColdFlame » Mon Nov 10, 2003 1:56 pm

Hello all,

I just joined the program by installing Folding on my 2 machines (AMD 2000+ XP and Celeron 2.4). I'm working on my first WU and I hope everything will work fine.

So far I have a bunch of questions and I think it would be worthwhile to have a guide for those starting out like me. Does a such thing exist already? Like step-by-step guide.

Fact 1: So far I've read that client application is faster than GUI. That is okay. My Celeron machine is a Windows 2003 Server and can't run the GUI app anyway and the GUI pictures are pretty boring after a while IMHO.

Fact 2: I've heard there are 2 different cores, for AMD and p4. Which one should I use? I have both AMD and Celeron chips.

Fact 3: Is Celeron as good as p4 in those calculations? I know Celerons suck at gaming but in SysMark they are okay. Any idea about Folding performance? p4 2.4 vs Celeron 2.4?

Fact 4: Does anybody know if RAM matters at all? 256 MB vs 512 MB vs 1 GB?

Anything else I need to know?

I plan to have my 3rd PC running 24/7 on Folding, it is p3 1 GHz box.

Thanks for your help!

No, the F@H client will not run any faster with 512MB than it will with 256.
