Viper, Welcome to the team 8)

In the Sig box add [ i m g ] (with no spaces) at the beginning and [ / i m g ] after with your text in the middle and it should work.

However, you will have to finish and return a work unit to Stanford and then wait for LiquidNinja's to 'catch up'. :D

Good luck and if you have any questions just yell.

Excuse the attrocias England

Another newb

Post by wooglin » Wed Dec 29, 2004 2:34 pm

3 systems added today:
At work - P3-800MHz plugging along very slowly
Spare laptop - P4-M 1.9GHz
At home - Celeron 2.66
under the name w00glin

Should start seeing some results in the next 24 hours.

Would it be frowned upon to seripticiously add FAH to other random computers? ie. Roomates, parents, other workstations in the office?

You should only install F@H on computers if the owner agrees. It is expressly forbidden in the EULA of the client to install it on systems if you don't have permission. Besides it is theft if you do. I got my year end power bill last week. It was twice as high as last year. Half of which was caused by F@H.

I was planning on it. SPCR has really helped me spend some serious cash on quieting things down here at the house.

Oh. Wait. Save some cash. :P

Now to replace that 380S with something quieter...

I'm definately folding for the team for good! Now I still have some convincing to do that computers will need to remain on 24/7 even when temperatures get warmer. Hopefully by then they'll be all but inaudible... that should help.
Glad to be part of the team!

Thanks for the welcome, although I fold under my GameSpy ID (mosschops_awooga). I was involved in the SETI project for about a year but this seems much more worthwhile.

So far I have my three machines at home and my mothers although two have yet to turn in results. I can't hope to turn in the sort of figures some of the "Superstars" have managed. I did try to get my work laptop in on the action but our paranoid IT department has blocked access with the firewall. Shame really because 80% of the day it just twiddles it's thumbs, damned waste of a 1.6Gig P4M

Fold on

Greg

Sig seems to be broken, how long does it take to pick up results, I show on stanford's site ok?

See the discussion here: Troubles with the Liquid Ninja's sigs?
The short version: Everybody who has changed his profile since the boards got upgraded to phpBB 2.0.11 has a broken Liquid Ninja sig.

An alternative is doing something like my sig. It's not as pretty, but it works.

Thanks! Glad to do what I can to help out. Also, a big thank you for all the info I've gathered over the past few weeks of research here.

I've only been folding since this past weekend, so I don't know what you guys are talking about half the time, but I'll try to catch up.
It only took me a couple days to get frustrated too, as I found that the unit that was crunching yesterday stopped at 62% while I was at work today.
My anger was short lived though, since I later noticed that I received 375 points for it :D Is that normal or are the points usually just lost?

I plan to try to get my wife's machine going tonight. This seems like it could become yet another addiction.

Jim

Wow, you're Folding before you posted!

Post by NeilBlanchard » Tue Jan 11, 2005 6:46 pm

Welcome to the SPCR forums, Jim!

It is not all that uncommon to have it abort, and I think it is normal to get points for what you completed. It may have aborted due to a flaw in the protein, but it also could have been a glitch in your machine. Are you overclocking? I am, but when I had it clocked a little higher than I do now, I got a bad unit about every week or two. I backed off a smidge, and have not lost one since.

It is a bit frustrating when you first start -- you can't wait for the points to show up! But, the most important thing is to keep plugging away, day after day -- the best folders are the consistent (or persistent?) ones.

And there is strength in numbers -- I just added my boss's machine (which his permission, of course) and it is doing about as much as all the other four put together! (It's an Athlon 64 3200+ and it seems good for almost 200-300PPD!) Of course, one of my fast machines is running SETI about 1/3 of the time, and I work on it about 1/4 of the time, and two of the four are not fast...one is just a 400mHz K6! It is taking almost 600 hours to do a 241 pointer -- but every bit counts! The day that it finishes, I'll get a 241 point bonus!

So, keep on folding Jim!

Hello and welcome to Tjokken!! A few days late -- I had meant to post this a while back...but welcome, none the less! I hope that you can stick with it.

BTW, I will being getting MAudin back online this Saturday -- I had installed a newer version of Sygate and the 5.02 FAH client a week ago, and he must have denied it access to the internet... :?
