Seasonic Decisions

Post by Laurie » Wed Nov 29, 2006 12:28 pm

Hello,

I am considering changing a few of my parts around to make my system a lot quieter.

Intended Spec:

Athlon 64 3700+ (Already Have)
Asus A8R-MVP (Already Have)
1GB OCZ PC3200 (Already Have)
Antec Solo
Scythe Ninja Heatsink
2x 120mm & 1x 92mm Quiet Fans (Probably Nexus or Noctua)
Hitachi 2.5" SATA
Passive Albatron 7300GT

My questions are:

a) Should I go with the 380W or 430W Seasonic S12? (It's the amperage I'm concerned about, not the wattage)
b) Would it be worth replacing/overlaying the stock sound deadening panels in the Solo with AcousticPack at any time?

I am currently running XP, but intend to move to Ubuntu and also possibly Vista as well in the new year (hence 7300GT)

Any feedback/advice would be greatly appreciated!

380W (or even 330W). With those parts your max power draw will be slightly more than 100W.
b) Would it be worth replacing/overlaying the stock sound deadening panels in the Solo with AcousticPack at any time?
IMO, no. Unless you are hyper-sensitive about noise or have a very low ambient, that setup should be quiet enough for just about anyone.
