Silent case+PSU combinations

I read every review on the topic you wrote.
I am supersensitive about silence and I'm tring to terminate the noise my pc makes.

My hardware is:

CPU: P4 2660 MHz (506), LGA 775
HS: Thermaltake golden orb (rpm<1000/min all the time)
MB: Gigabyte 945 GMF (microATX), vodeo on bord
HDD: WD 80 GB SATA II
DVD RW Samsung
TV Tuner Win Fast
No name case and PSU (450W  )

The only modification I did is chenging the PSU fan with a 80mm Antec set on low.
I plann to upgrade the sistem and first in line is adding a pasive cooled video card (WinFast PX7300 GT Extreme GF 7300 GT 256Mb DDR3 for exmple, or anithing better but still pasivelly cooled). Next I'll try to get an P4 805 (still selling in Romania).
The most important source of noise is the PSU, I barely hear the TT 100mm fan on the CPU, and all of the noise is amplified by the vibrating case.
My $$ allows mw to think about the following options:
1. Antec P150 with the original PSU
2. Antec SOLO + Seasonic S12 430W (my favorite combination)
3. Antec SOLO + pasive PSU
Don't know if I could run the thing without the rear fan (read that it is not at all silent)? - would there be problems with heat.

Hi!

Alternative (2) seems nice. The Antec Solo and the Seasonic psu.

According to the customer reviews I have read. The Seasonic is a quiet psu.

Just have in mind, that the P4 D805 is a fairly hot cpu.

A Scythe Ninja Plus and suitable fan ( 120mm Nexus or 800 rpm Noctua for ex?) Or at least an Arctic Cooling freezer 7 Pro should work well.

You can always get a Zalman Fanmate II fan regulator. If a fan speed regulator software as " Speedfan" wont work in a satisfactory way?

I dont think, that running the case without the exhaust fan is a very good idea.

Soft mount the the Antec Tricool with elastic rubber cords. And try to run the Tricool fan in the Solo on "low" setting first.

If that wont work for you?

Then get a 120mm Nexus, Noctua or Yate Loon fan for ex.

The same goes for the P150.

If you find, you need a intake fan later on? Try a 92mm Nexus or Akasa Amber series fan.

And still what about the Solo plus an pasive cooled PSU (Silverstone NIGHTJAR ST30NF) and an Noctua NF-S12 800 at the rear (set at 600rpm)? Whar's the dB outcome of such an option ??? - with the P4 506?

Any comments on the TT Golden Orb cooler???

It should be a nice and quiet setup. Just see to, that the room temp in the summer is o.k. I.e max 25 - 26C.

The P4 506 is a cooler running cpu than the D805 at least. But as said before. A small under volting would probably give some degrees better temps.

The TT Golden Orb. Are we talking the smaller, orginal Golden Orb or GO II?

The GO II obviously; any reviews on it ??? [/img]http://www.thermaltake.com/product/Cool ... -p0220.asp

Beware with the HDD, if you didn't. If the other components in your rig will be silent, the sound of the HDD can be rather annoying.

Hello,
just finished the setup.
It's much, much better than I ever expected.
It's very, very quiet. ThankU for existing; it's just wonderful buying the products "prescribed" only to find out they are as good as your tests show.
I can't hear at all:
1. the Seasonic S12 430W
2. the Thermaltake CPU heatsink (900 rpm)
3. the Antec SOLO is simplly amazing
The only thing I hear is the damn HDD (you are so right ddekany);
advise needed on a quiet HDD and DVD-RW

The LG GSAH22N-BK seems to be a silent DVD combo. Cheap too.

As for hd. Seagate or Samsung.
