Hi guys,

This site seems like a good source for info. So I've decided to silence my computer.

Ive set up a page with all the info on it (check out my 1337 graphs):

So far I have only turned off one fan, done some heat measurements (using lm_sensors in linux and a program I wrote to track changes). I have also ordered:

* Scythe Ninja Plus Cooler SCNJ-1100P
* Thermalright HR-03 VGA Heatpipe Cooler
* Seasonic S12 Energy Plus 550W


The only problem I have is that I have an AGP 6600LE and I'm scared ill cook the HSI Chipset...They are out of stock of this:

I'd say some tin snips would be very handy! How's the front intake?

My box doesn't have a front intake (I was thinking about that....)

The only space on the front that air can come in is the floppy drive opening (because I don't have a floppy drive)

After I get the new graphics card without a fan, ill run some temperature tests

How many free 5.25 cd drive bays do you have?

If you have 3 X 5.25 bays free? Then get some foam strips and a washable 120mm fan filter.

Then, tape those foam strips to the opening, using double sided tape.

Then, just wedge the filter in between the foam.

I have such a passive intake in my Antec P180 case. And it works very well.

If you have less bays free? Maybe just 2? Then make your own filter, by glueing a piece of nylon stocking to a simple, home made wooden frame.

Just make sure, you stretch the nylon enough.

Also, seal all the holes on the cd cages sides. This, to prevent air leakage.

Excellent tape job on the video card. That gave me quite a chuckle.

Something you may want to consider, if it's going to be a while before you can get your new vid card, is to buy some Arctic Silver thermal adhesive. It's basically a heatsink epoxy that will permanently bond the GPU and the heatsink together. Here's a link to the product at Newegg so you can see what it is:

Also, I think it would be better to have an exhaust fan than to run an intake fan in your case. I have an Antec Solo case and experimented with intake fans (2 loud Panflo fans I had laying about) and 1 exhaust fan (120 mm Antec Tri-Cool). With 1 or 2 intake fans my CPU and GPU temps averaged about 1-2C cooler. I figured the extra noise wasn't worth the gain.
