Help with quiet PS / MB compatibility

Post by okjunga » Mon Jul 16, 2007 5:26 am

I recently purchased a Seasonic S12 380 PS and an MSI P965 Platinum MB for my first silent pc build. I was assembling the components last night, and I believe I have a problem.

The P965 MB has an 8-pin power connector for the CPU (JPSW3), but the S12 380 PS has only a 4-pin connector. According to the S12 manual, only models 430 and above have the 8-pin connector.

It appears to me that the P965 requires an 8-pin connector and I will have to return my PS and exchange for the S12 430. I had purchased the 380 because some advice on this site indicated it would be adequate for my intended use, however, perhaps that advice does not apply to the newer C2D motherboards.?

If anyone can verify that, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

You don't need to fill the 8-pin. Use the 4-pin connector - it will plug into half of the 8-pin.
