And register to say hello!

Been a long time reader, I love the fan and PSU reviews SPCR does.

It's getting warm here in Sydney, and my old fans are starting to die. Especially one in my folding rig that's sitting next to me screaming SHHH...

About time I got new ones, eh?

Welcome to SPCR, now that you've "surfaced"!

What is your system? (And are you Folding for our team?)

Thanks for the welcome.

The folding is rig nothing really special, an old P4C 2.8GHz and 1.5GB DDR stuffed into a modded 10-year old Dell XPS T450 case. Not on the SPCR team, at least not yet.

EDIT: Typo.

Hi,

We'll gladly take all Folding contributions -- use Team # 31574 to join us.

What is the noisiest part(s) of the system?

Currently, the PSU is shrieking like a cicada. It runs a 140mm fan so I'm looking forward to when SPCR gets some samples to review. Let's hope it's just the fan and not the electronics.

Cooling: CNPS7000B-Cu and VF700-Cu at 5V. There's a single 80mm Cooler Master case fan running at ~1500RPM.

Hi,

If the bearings are worn out, then you could just replace it, and it would likely be quieter... I'd look for the 1000RPM 140mm Yate Loon.

Hi again, thanks for your interest.

Found some time to mess with the computer a bit. It seems the 140mm fan in the PSU wasn't to blame. Okay, maybe it wasn't that surprising considering it's a generic brand EZCool...

No bulging/leaking caps and nothing looks burnt in the PSU, though I can smell a whiff of burnt stuff.

By the way, what's SPCR's forum policy on external links to online retailers and other forums? Didn't see it in the stickies.

EDIT: The fan from the PSU is surprisingly quiet. Google turned up a single hit and guess what, it's from SPCR: A new 140mm x 25mm fan, pretty quiet. Mine has blue LEDs instead of green, at 5V it's inaudible from about 20cm.
