Hi, computer noob here.

A buddy put together a computer for me with the following components:

VGA SAPPHIRE|11200-00-20G HD7850 RT
PSU RAIDMAX | HYBRID2 RX-630SS 630W
MB ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX AM3+ R

So under normal usage the computer is very quiet... but when I play video games the 7850 video card fires up like a jet engine, quite loud... computer is in n air-conditioned space, plenty of ventialtion around it, etc.

How can I make it quieter? Replacement fan kit? I've seen that the Accelero Xtreme PLUS II does work with the 7850, but reviews are all over the place (not a direct fit, horrible instructions, etc). Any other fan kits you'd recommend?

Or should I go liquid cooled?

Other suggestions?

Download and try MSI Afterburner. The program works fine with any AMD cards, you just get a few more options with MSI cards. The software allows you to control fan speeds, voltage, etc. with the software. If you don't want to use, it will at least provide you the ability to see what speed percentage your card is running at.

Also, make sure your wires are clean around the card. I had a power cable bust a cable tie and as it inched closer to the two fans on my 7850, the sounds got louder and louder since the air was forced to flow in two directions around the cable. I have the MSI R7850 2GD5/OC and it is super quiet, even under normal gaming loads. The only time I can really hear it from my couch (2m away) is when I test the GPU fans at >85%.

What fan setup are you running in the case? Could you give a picture? If you have well enough thought out case cooling it might be that the VGA cooling doesn't have to be so extreme.

The Arctic S1 Plus is compatible with the 7850 if used with a 'turbo module' 120mm fan strapped to it. This would make more sense than the Xtreme Plus as the 7850 is not the highest level TDP card.

My solution for you.

Download msi afterburner.

Set user defined fan speed.

Set fan speed to 0% from 0 to 60C, evenly scaling from 60C up to 85C.

Bam, quiet.

asus gpu tweak does the same thing, it's just more awkward
