I'm the none 8)

Actually have a camera, webcam, scanner, phone charger, 2*phone data, 2.5" HDD, pen drive that all plug in if essential. But I don't trust USB:

- swapped my mouse back to PS/2 using an adapter (as on USB port it wasn't waking up the OS on one of the mobos I've had)
- swapped the printer to direct LAN connect
- swapped the ADSL to a LAN/router/modem

The last straw: a downloaded DVD ISO failled md5sum when copied to Linux from 2.5" hdd via USB. Also failed checksum when I copied the same file into Windows from the 2.5" via USB (different checksum though!) Also gave the wrong checksum when I checksummed the file directly on the 2.5" HDD via USB, whether from Linux or Windows. But gave no error when I mounted the 2.5" onto an IDE cable.

I edited the original post with more details, but anyway according to HDtach its a 250Gb Seagate ST3250832A. Its the Design by F.A. Porsche line. Lacie claimes maximum sustained data transfer as 34Mb/s and it seems to be correct :) datasheet

Its not quiet enough to have on 24/7 but not disturbingly loud either, its mostly a hum and some vibration wich the rubber feet isolate from the table pretty well. The aluminium enclosure gets warm so it seems the heat is transferred pretty well from the hdd.

OH. So it's a 3.5" drive then. See all mine are 2.5's.
