Any Oblivion experts here?

Post by Vaiski » Sat Dec 30, 2006 3:35 pm

I've thought about trying this now that I have a new comp.
I understand that there is lot to be gained by playing it with correct mods? Mostly for gameplay but even for graphics?

Unfortunately I seem to be unable to find any reliable information as to which mods I should choose.. mostly it's just 'This is the greatests mod!!!!!!!' type of posts that really don't help me at all.

So.. any help would be appreciated.

I can say that I played Oblivion a lot, but the only special setting I use is the 'max frame to render ahead = 1' (some say 0), in Advanced D3D settings.
I have a E6600 (@stock) and 7900 GTX and play at 1600x900 with HDR. If I would add extra visual candy my framerates would drop under 30fps outdoors.
If you haven't yet played the game, I would be happy to offer a few essential tips.
Update: you may find some info about Oblivion add-ons here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox360 ... 27345.html , look for 'Downloaded Content FAQ'.

not to derail the thread, but - tzupy, are you talking about coolbits?
also, is there any definite answer as to whethere oblivion actualy benefits from dual core cpus?

(geee, i just remembered - gotta find some garlic on my way home as i really need to get rid of my vampirism) (second note to self - remember not to leave the office until its dark outside)

Yes I am using coolbits, but I don't know how to enable the 'max frame to render ahead' setting on Ati 1950XT.
Oblivion definitely benefits from dual-core CPUs (and more cache): http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=2747&p=3
