Loudest case. Ever...

I'm sure the cooling is superb, but it sure soudns like a Harrier taking off. Vertically. In a small room. Empty, with no furniture & stuff to dampen the sound.

Good God...

Haha and I suppose all the 40mm fans on the side are just for those extra dB's, huh?

Gotta have the biggest numbers, regardless...

the military should look into this as a form of sonic torture

That's a server case, those 40mm fans at side are from redundant power supplies.

Whoa.... retro!

That case looks a lot like some of the old Sun360's and MicroVAX's we had in my laboratory...

And no, those weren't fun to be in the same room with, either.

My brother works in IT dept in a mid-size company, and where he and other guys sit and work, are some servers. Huge beasts, noisy as hell, 19" racks from floor to ceiling, redundant PSU's, lotsa *real* noisy gear. Whenever he visits me or we talk about quiet computing, he has this funny look in his eye that says it all. And whenever I offer to mod his home PC or just try to tell him to go get an aftermarket CPU cooler or try to fanswap his PSU, he wears that smirk and says that he considers his PC a truly silent machine. No wonder. Even when you take a totally stock cooled PC it is virtually silent when compared to the gross behemoth in his office. I envy him. I mean, he is trully happy with his machine in terms of noise. I think I'm not going to tell him my Barracuda in Scythe QD bothers me now, as it is the loudest component in my rig. I have this feeling he won't get it. Oh, and he has two little boys who make so much ruckus that his PC just disappears. On the other paw, I don't think people should be working in the same room where servers sit. I mean, we are now in EU, we have modern OHS regulations and ISO etc. It's bad for hearing. I'm gonna ask him about that.

This can hardly be correct, but according to what I was once taught, the second should add 3dB, the 3rd and 4rd another 3dB, 5-8 another 3dB, 9-16 another 3dB, 17-32 another 3, 33-64 another 3. Since there's 70 in there, I'll stop there.

So, according to that, it's only as noisy as one fan + 18. Now, seeing how he bought seventy, I would immagine him buying the cheapest he could find, so I'd say, that lead to at least a 25db fan, even at 7v. So, then we'd be looking at 25 + 18 = 43dB, this fails to take into account however, the turbulence. And I can immagine the turbulence to be quite bad in that case. I have no idea exactly how much noise the turbulence would give off, but lets say I'll make a wild guess and end up with a total of 50dB. I'm having a hard time believing this myself, so I'm probably very very wrong :D

Somebody good at this stuff redo my calculations and tell me I'm wrong :P

That is incorrect below 30dB (I think). Below that then that "rule" is incorrect. 2 fans on 18dB isn't showing any raise on the dB-meater while if you calculate it with a formula then it rasises the dB
Something like that, MikeC tested it a while agoe. Forgot where he posted it tho :(

That would make sense. Never quite understood how two sources of 1dB could add up to 4dB.

Are 2 fans noisier than 1 blowing the same CFM?

Is this the post you're refering to?

I know those fans..

Air Flow 24 CFM
Noise Level 55.5 dBA
Wow, 55dB for 24CFM? that's gotta be the worst dB/cfm ratio ever.

15000RPM? That's just... sick, even for such a small fan

Funny how according to my calculations earlier, one of these fans at full speed makes more noise than than the entire case made of fans together :D

See those legs on the case? They've got special spiky pegs, like for the tent, that go into the floor. Otherwise, the whole case would be pushed to the front if all those li'l screamers spin up to 15k RPM

Well, that is a server system and not really meant for an environment with humans in it.

That case is probably not bad at all compered to a couple of 1U 19" rack cases considering that those are basically flat wind tunnels with n (n = ~10) small fans and large areas of undampened metal chassis.

Overall, that picture is fun to make fun of but the system doesn't really compare to SPCR type systems any more than a rack server would.

lol - 24 CFM is pushed almost inaudible <18dB(A) by the 120mm-fans:P

I want to have those fans, just so f@#$%&g awesome:
Spinning like hell (it might as well create a disturbance in the gravityfield:P) and no airfLOW

Wow. And I thought my two NMB 9,000rpm screamers were loud... I certainly don't want to listen to those 15k RPM little monsters. Unless of course you're planning on double-overclocking a Vanta LT...

Try fitting a 120mm fan in a 1U rack-mount server ;)
