Help IRQ conflict

Post by casebuyer » Mon Jul 28, 2008 1:55 am

35 MB file can be copied from my sata drive to other sata in 2 seconds
while from my sata to ide drive it takes more than 15 seconds
Might there be an irq conflict problem or with my updated jmicron ide controller the copying speed is 2 mb per second which I assume it might be at least 10-50 MB before
can anyone help me

My experience has been that an IRQ conflict would result in inoperation. More likely your motherboards IDE options were an afterthought and not the fastest option available.

In other words this might be correct.

Make sure the PATA drive is in Ultra DMA mode and not PIO. IRQ conflicts are seldom a problem with modern systems.

My memory might be faulty, but I thought that XP handles IRQ's in sort of a "virtual" manner so that no matter how many seem to be on the same IRQ....ehhh, so instead of talking out my ass, I googled "windows xp irqs" and look what came up at the top of the list:

It could be DMA (or BIOS issues). It's not an IRQ problem. Maybe XP doesn't know to automatically try UDMA for the HDDs on that JMicron chip w/ the driver you have?

What is the CPU usage of the system while you're copying files? If it's high (anything over 15%) then your PATA controller is running in PIO mode. This is usually caused by errors reading or writing data to the drive.

Have you run chkdsk /f on all your hard drives yet?

thanks for the reply the drive was in ultradma mod
ide was in slave mod after I changed it to master the issue solved and copying 40 MB took 2 seconds
yet I am not sure if I put on another ide drive as slave will the same issue appear again and why even in slave mod the harddisk was that slow anyway
