Is posting in Forums "Blogging"?

Post by Aris » Mon Jun 30, 2008 4:26 pm

My wife says i "blog" too much, but ive been posting on forums way before the word "blog" was ever used. Is posting on forums "blogging"? I always thought blogging was when you had a website where one person posts ideas and people respond to what you post. But not a hub where many people come together to post different topics about a central theme.

So what say all of you? Are we blogging, or posting on forums?

Forums are not blogging. However, because 'blog' is the current media buzzword, I can understand where your wife gets the idea; most people don't have a full understanding of the internet. Considering the complexity of computers and software, I'm not all that surprised. You could try to explain her misunderstanding to her, or you could translate her meaning and not worry about technicalities.

Interesting sidenote: I hate the word 'blog' so very much that I have not, nor shall I ever, spoken the word aloud.

I've seen someone with a signature in a forum that read:

"When you're holding a hammer, everything looks like a nail."

Perhaps this phrase is meaningful here based on what crazybob said.

Anybody who tries to compare a forum to a blog should look up the word "forum" in a dictionary sometime and gather up some historical context. Then compare that to a "log" or a "journal" and you have a couple very different things.

Nope, definitely not a "blog". Closer to an old fashioned BBS (bulletin board system) than anything.

That definately beats the talking that small voice in your head, which sounds like asthmatic who has chained smoked 60 years :P

Hmm, that guy has probably talked with my small inner voice, except my small innervoice put gun instead hammer and target instead nail... :P

Seriously:
No blogging is very different from the posting in forums. So my vote is: No.
