They make noise, too.

Accelero memory heatsinks

Post by Wedge » Tue Apr 08, 2008 6:05 pm

Please share your experience, especially if you own both rev1 and rev2. I am getting mixed messages on rev2 memory heatsinks. Many say they are a big improvement over rev1; still others say they are inadequate. But pretty much everyone seems to agree rev1 memory heatsinks are terrible.

On my rev 2:
I cleaned the RAM chips with ArctiClean and held them down firmly for about a minute each. Ive been using the S1 for about 3 weeks and have moved the Pc around quite a bit in that time and all heatsinks are still firmly attached.

A small drop of superglue is usually required until they "set"(few heat cycles like with thermal paste). It's good 3m thermal tape, so it will stick if the chips are clean. ie - 0 oil - perfectly clean.

The superglue will hold even when temps getting incredibly high?

I did that, too :)

Superglue generally is there to hold it until the thermal adhesive or tape sets.

From where I'm located, thermal adhesive is hard to find locally.. and buying it online.. wow.. might as well buy some new ramsinks.

I'd say buy two sets of the zalman vga ramsinks.. cheap and easy to find. They are guaranteed to stick!

On another note, does the vrms/mosfets.. really need heatsinks?? I noticed many passive / non stock solutions use no memory heatsinks and no mosfet heatsinks.. so is it really necessary?
