hello guys, noob to the forum here .
previously my PC ran with ATI X1950, which was almost silent, consistent with my virtually low noise. the new Sapphire RADEON HD4830 comes with a stock fan/heatsink which is quite noisy for my taste. i'm thinking of replacing the fan/heatsink and going passive.
i looked around, and apparently not many heatsinks are advertised to support HD4830. and i heard Sapphire's HD4830 might be a bit of problem since it's not using AMD's reference design. i had my eyes on Artic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev. 2, but i don't know if it could fit my card. i've emailed them twice, but still have not received a reply.
any of u guys could advise me on this one? thanks!

i bought and installed the accelero S1 revision 2 on my sapphire HD4830. one of the heatsink i attached on the RAM got in the way of the copper pipes. so i nudged the heatsink slightly off center, meaning it only covers about 3/4 of the RAM.
it runs normally for a couple of hours since i installed it this morning. i havent tested it on any games yet, but using the HD4830 utilities, i tested all the speed range at got a max heat of 58C. tell me if this is normal. also, what's the typical heat range for HD4830?

I was just going to start this topic, bought the same card after reading reviews claiming it to be somewhat silent, baloney I say! The thing sounds like a vacuumcleaner even at 25% fan speed
Anyways, I got my Accelero coming but just got this nervous twinge that it might not fit my Sonata II case so I'd like to know if anyone has done this.

I just installed the card into my system and its 31 at idle.
This is with the S1 but i have a yate loon perpendicular to it on my hard drive cage (P180).
The OCCT load was 52 on the core. Pretty good
A quick tip about the ram sink that doesnt fit under the heatpipe, you can bend away the fins so there is more space between them and the heatpipe can fit.

hmmm... mine idles typically at 40c, lowest i've seen was 38c. i havent started overclocking yet. a check after some intense gaming saw a 50c. not sure if i should get a lower figure. my other two fans are the CPU fan running at 900rpm and a 120mm PSU fan running rather slowly.

I have the same card and couldn't believe how loud it was. I found a different option to make it super quiet.
I bought a Zalman vf700. The included harness gives you 2 options: 5v and 12v. At 12v, I found it too loud, also. At 5v, it was inaudible, but the GPU got too hot for my comfort level.
I wanted the board to control the speed. The stock Sapphire fan uses a 2-wire plug. The Zalman, although it comes with a 3-wire plug, only uses 2 wires, as can be seen by the high speed/low speed harness.
So I cut off one of the 4 connectors from the Zalman harness, and cut off the connector from the stock Sapphire fan, soldered the red and black wires, and plugged the Zalman onto the board. Voila! Instant silence, with a fan that automatically adjusts speed.
The highest speed I've seen the Zalman run set up this way is 51%, while running 3DMark06. At that speed (full 3D load) it's still silent.
