They make noise, too.

Post by sgeva2001 » Mon Apr 19, 2010 5:21 am

case p182 or p183
looking for low noise or fanless video card with the same performance or better from HD5670 but may be with less noise or fanless?

I think you can go up one step in this series and still go fanless.

You can probably get an 5770 fanless if you don't overclock it if you use a Accelero s1 :P

You can do this as well:

At 7v or 5v, it shouldnt be noticeable over the sound of your harddrive.

I am not sure if I understand.
I can buy 5770 fanless but I have to use Accelero s1? ( or I disconect internalley the fan?)
or i can also buy 5770 with fan but config it for 5v or 7 volt and so get low noise level?
I can do this options also with HD5670 ?

thank you

He is saying if you are willing to dismantle the card and change out the heatsink you can put an Accelero heatsink on a 5770 as shown in that picture. Depending on the temperature in your environment you may need a fan with a 5770 + Accelero.

If you want a card that already comes fanles from the factory the 5750 is the fastest sold that way. A company by the name Powercolor sells a Green and non Green version.

As shown here.

P.S.: I mean even an old 9800GT EE may be coped with the S1: it should be cheaper than the fanless green 5750, but I don't know if it may worth.

HD5670 can come also with fanless? or it will not stand the heat?

The HD5670 - as numbers might suggest - is inferior to the HD5750, and it dissipates a few less watts: so it's easier to run it fanless.

May be better if you give a look around with Google for some basic information about the ATI Radeon HD5000 series, and Powecolor Go! Green models particularly.

Regard,
Luca

In my country I did not find Powecolor Go! Green models.
I am searching about hd5670 fanless but fail till now.
I also did not find the model of MSI which according to this review need less power then other HD5670.
MSI R5670-PMD1G Radeon HD 5670 1 GB

I know, I know: it's not an easy pick.
Some swedish said you may try in Sweden...

When I wrote that it's easy to run fanless I willed to say that you may try to swap its cooler with an AC S1 or similar heatsink "safely" (obviously, the swap will void the warranty).

If you don't want to modify a fanned card, then your fanless options are Powercolor Go! Green or SCS models (5750, 5670 and 5570, the 2nd and 3rd of those only just announced and not widely available yet), there's an Asus Silent 5570 (but no 5670 that I've spotted), which is also hard to come by at present, or you're stuck with the 5450 which is almost universally fanless and easily available. But not much use for gaming.
Or you can get an older model, like the 4670, which is still widely available in fanless guise.
I don't know offhand how the fanless nvidia alternatives stack up. I think you can get a fanless GT240, but you'd have to check the reviews for comparative performance to the Radeon 5000 series.

If anyone is having a hard time finding the 5670 powercolor fanless there is now a Sapphire card that is cheaper.

SAPPHIRE Ultimate 100289UL Radeon HD 5670

It's only $10 cheaper for me than the Powercolor AX5670 1GBD5-NS3H but it's nice to have another option.

on the topic of 5750 cards GIGABYTE GV-R575SL-1GI Silent-Cell is now available in the US (and presumably elsewhere).

Keep in mind both the Gigabyte Silent Cell 5750/5770 and Sapphire Ultimate 5670 have heat sinks that extend over the top of the card meaning smaller cases might not be compatible.

Another drawback to the 5750 silentcell is that it has one VGA connector instead of a display port connector that is common on more expensive 5750 cards. As in 5750 Silent-Cell has 1 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 VGA but the Powercolor 5750 has 2 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 DisplayPort. But if you can put up with the loss of port(s) and the oversized heatsink it's cheaper.

prices shipped to my home

Sapphire 5670 ultimate (fanless) $125
Powercolor 5670 Go Green (fanless) $135

GIGABYTE 5750 Silent-Cell (fanless) $135
Powercolor 5750 SCS3 (fanless) $155
Powercolor 5750 Go Green (fanless) $195 (note this one does not require 6 pin power connector as it uses less power than other 5750 cards)

GIGABYTE 5770 Silent-Cell (fanless) $165 (this one unlike the 5750 has DisplayPort and does not have VGA).

It makes it a tough sell to go fanless and not spring the extra couple of bucks to step up from the 5670 to the 5750 assuming you can afford to house a 2 or 3 slot card and aren't limited by height issues.

It also makes the GoGreen cards a tough sell on price at the 5750 level knowing how many other 5750/5770 cards are cheaper.

Just found a head to head review between the 5750 go green and the 5750 silent cell at http://www.hardwareheaven.com/reviews/1 ... cking.html short version is if you have some ram sinks laying around the Silent Cell is a winner. The Go Green has ram sinks preinstalled but is more expensive. And of course there is the size and video connectors to think of.
