Passive 6850
Is this recommended for a silent build?
Or will it create too much heat?

Re: Passive 6850
Using one right now. Only gets up to a little over 80c when playing Crysis: Warhead.jimdoe wrote:Is this recommended for a silent build?

(Case: Antec P182, System Fans: 3x Scythe Slipstreams @ 400RPM, 1x intake, 1x CPU heatsink, 1x exhaust, nothing on the GPU heatsink)
Probably unwise to use it in a fully passive build, but as long as you've got a little airflow going through the case, it'll work well.
Re: Passive 6850
If you have not much case airflow, you might want to zip-tie a pair of very slow 12 cm fans to make it happier: the extra noise will be unnoticeable.

Re: Passive 6850
I've got one also. Zipped a low-speed, inaudible Noctua to it. Temp never exceeds 60C, even when playing Crysis, incredible. I'm very happy with it.
Re: Passive 6850
Got a zip-tied Slipstream 1200 rpm at <5 V (read: inaudible) on my Radeon 5750. Can only recommend it! Temperature only went as low as 56 C during Furmark, and my case has next to no airflow. Without the fan it reached 95 C and continued to rise if I didn't shut down Furmark. I can really recommend zip-tying a fan, especially on the 6850 which is undoubtedly hotter than my 5750.
I think a Slipstream Slim version fould fit perfectly because of its thinness. But not that necessary if you don't use other expansion slots.

Re: Passive 6850
That one is very quiet once you manually set the fan speed to 30~35%. Mine was about as smooth and quiet as the 400RPM Scythe Slipstreams I had in the rig at the same time, quite impressive.skeeder wrote:thoughts on the frozen cooler?
