Hi and thanks for a great post. I know the post is a bit old by now, but I hope someone is still able to help me out.

I've loaded my .rom in UltraEdit and found line 6600. However my card says 02 in column f instead of e1. See screenshot. Any idea what this means? And where i can change the idle fan speed from 30 to 20%?

My card is an EVGA 1024mb SC. Latest bio/firmware from EVGA.

After reading the advice of twilothunder further up in the thread, I found the E1 bite, and it works

GPU temp idles at 42 deg celcius
Fan speed stays at 22-23%

I have a "EVGA 01G-P3-1372-TR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) Superclocked 1GB 256-bit GDDR5" and was wondering why the fan never goes below 30%, and found this thread.

I downloaded the two tools, NiBiTor, and nvflash.

NiBiTor v6.03 was complaining about "Cant connect to to service manager", it has two "to" in the message. Anyway, all I used was nvflash 5.100.0.1 in admin command prompt in Windows 7 x64.


I hope this serves as an updated instruction for others.


To backup rom:
nvflash --save backup.rom


Then load it in Ultraedit, and for the correct address, I had to search "47 04 01 21 00 06 26 C4 09 20 00 00 22". It is the hex address right after these. For mine, the exact address was 66d8h. Modify it to desired value, then save it. Ultraedit will automatically create a backup of the original as "backup.rom.bak".

Note: I tried hex number 14 (=20%), then also tried 00 (=0%). When I left it idle in Windows, using hwmonitor, the fan won't go lower than 15%. At 15%, the fan stays around 930 RPM. At 30% it was 1140 RPM. My room temperature is around 26C, and it's probably not going to go much lower than this since I can't stand cold rooms. So I set it at 15% for minimum value, which is hex number 0F.


To flash rom (2 steps):
nvflash --protectoff
nvflash backup.rom


I have a Lian Li Q11 mini-itx case with good air flow throughout the tiny cramped space. Here's my parts: Corsair builder series 430W 80PLUS power (added a resistor on the cooling fan), Core i3-2120, intel DH67CF, 8GB RAM, SSD, HDD, DVDRW.

I used this successfully on my Galaxy 560Ti 448 cores. The only difference was that the HEX was off by 1 value. My string was: 47 04 04 21 00 06 26 C4 09 20 00 00 22

I set mine to 10% minimum with a HEX value of 0A (number zero and letter A)

The lowest it idles is 15% and it's very very quiet! The stock value of 40% was loud like a hair dryer.

I am very happy now and the card will be a keeper until the GTX670/680 is released sometime next month.

Edit: I also lowered my 2D voltage to 0.82V without problems!
