They make noise, too.

6870 and Artic Cooling Twin Turbo Pro

Post by falcon26 » Fri Feb 18, 2011 4:34 pm

I got the Artic cooling Twin turbo installed on my 6870. And as you can probably guess, its dead quiet. even at 40% fan speed I hear nothing. Idle temps is about 30 load is about 50...they really do make the best coolers...

Nice :) I think im going the same route buy a 6870 and get the twin turbo, what card did you actually get ? If I buy a reference and the twin turbo do I need to get another VR set with it? Also did you have to cut the fins to fit?

Yes buy a reference model. The custom ones only have a 2 pin fan header, where the normal one has the standard 4 pin header for the artic cooling cooler to plug into. I just went to my local Frys store and got the Diamond 6870 for $229. And you do not need to buy the extra vrm kit. You get all you need with the cooler itself. And yes you do have to clip some of them for the VRM chips. Its easy though. I actually can't even hear my pc now. Which is funny because I ordered a Fractal R3 case which has the sound dampening material on it, so it will probably be the quietest computer I've ever built...

I have an Accelero Xtreme Pro on mine, it's dead silent as well up to 30%.

How do you find out which ones have the 4 pin headers? None of the descriptions/specifications seem to say if the cards are reference models or what type of fan headers they use.

I went back to my 6870 with the artic cooling twin turbo on it. The Gtx570 was a bit to loud for me. The 6870 is dead silent. And all the games I play the 6870 is only about 10% slower than the 6870. So I now have a completely dead silent system again.....
