My 5770 has a mode where you cut some fins and bend the heat pipe. Like thishttp://www.overclock.net/air-cooling/62 ... 1-how.html
I was wondering if i should pair this with the turbo module or just with a 120 mm fan.
The advantage of the turbo module is that it seems like it would blow more air onto the heatpipe that had been bent up which receives no direct airflow from a 120 mm fan with a frame.
has anyone tried this? any advice? Im worried that the turbo module wont really fit onto my bent heatsink.

The 5770's are easy to cool and just a little bit of airflow will be enough. Begin with whatever fan you have at hand, it doesn't have to be a very big one. The whole heatsink will not have to get direct airflow.

you should really look at this review of the S1. In short, they've tested it on an archaic ATI Radeon X1950XTX in a case with very little airflow. Passively, the S1 is not up for the task. However, with a Nexus 120 mm the X1950XTX is easily cooled at 5V (67 C). I don't know about its TDP but I assume its higher than that of the 5770.

As the fins are widely spaced, even a little airflow will have tremendous impact on performance, as witnessed by SPCR's review.
I have had similar experience with my Powercolor SCS3 Radeon 5750 (Powercolor simply used the S1. Neat!). With two exhaust fans, Scythe Slipstream 1200 rpm at ~7-8 V (one in the PSU), the temp peaked at 93 C via Furmark. The extra power consumption of the 5770 would require a bit more cooling performance. Notice that the card does not have a fan strapped to it, so a strapped-on fan would reduce the temp.
My point with all this: just a little airflow can help cool the video card tremendously. And definitely enough to cool the 5770.

Re: 5770 + Accelero S1 Mod: Which fan to use?
kuzzia, Powercolor (and all passive OEM 5750 models) do not use Accelero S1, they use they own heatsinks. S1 is about 50% larger than what you have on your card. (I have a passive 5750 and S1 on 6850).
chico, I would advice Scythe Jyu fans 100mm wide. Two of them will fit on S1 PERFECTLY and they are silent on 1000rpm, although it would be an overkill for a 5770. Use zip-ties to attach them.
