Noise of Sapphire 5670 and 5750 vs HIS IceQ+ 5750

They make noise, too.

Noise of Sapphire 5670 and 5750 vs HIS IceQ+ 5750

Post by gorkypl » Mon Jul 04, 2011 5:06 am

Hello,

This is my first post, so hello - in fact I'm a long time reader of SPCR, so not a total newbie :)

I want to buy a new graphic card - I have very limited amount of money, so I decided to go with Sapphire, which seems to be the cheapest option.
Now I have two possibilities in my price range - the 5670 and 5750. Of course the 5750 is more powerful, but this is no surprise.

My priority, hovewer, is the silence. So if the 5750 is similar to 5670 in terms of making noise, I'd buy it. But if 5670 is siginficantly quieter, I'd sacrifice the performance of 5750.
The specific models I'm talking about are:
5670 and 5750

Anyone has any experience with these, or can provide links to some credible tests? I've found some, but none of them includes noise and wattage comparison...

Thanks in advance :)

I've seen a test of this 5670 here:
http://ht4u.net/reviews/2010/sapphire_r ... index9.php
Seems to be about as quiet as fan-cooled cards go...
The same site didn't test the regular sapphire HD5750 though so don't know how that compares.
(Though you'd better hope it's still that quiet - I think some manufacturers sometimes shift the noise/temperature balance with newer vga bios.)

Yeah, the 5670 is really very quiet. I can't find any reliable test of 5750, though...
There are only some funny attemts like this: http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/2965/s ... dex13.html - but I won't trust them in any way...

Well, better review attempts are probably this:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapp ... 50/29.html
http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/graf ... _messungen

They say it's quiet, though my gut feeling tells me that's probably not _really_ quiet, especially at idle (the compared cards aren't particularly quiet), the low noise delta between idle/load (together with the very low idle temp) might suggest the fan spins a bit too much at idle (too high min fan setting). That might be fixable with a bios mod (RBE), the cooling capacity of the HSF certainly seems sufficient.
And I hope you have (at least) one free slot next to the two slots the graphic card needs...

Thanks for the links, I think that I can approximate the noise now.

Here they found the HIS 5750 with iCooler IV to be slightly louder than the Sapphire 5670 (15.0 vs 13.8 dB(A) under load):
http://ht4u.net/reviews/2010/gesamtverg ... index5.php

And comparing these two links with tests of Sapphire 5750 and HIS iCooler IV i suppose that Sapphire is louder (28.3 vs 25.9 dB(A) - of course not comparable with the above results, but I'm trying to approximate the ratio):
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/ ... IV/29.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapp ... 50/29.html

So judging from these tests the Sapphire 5750 may be noticeably louder than the 5670.

I have also an option of buying a used HIS 5750 IceQ+, which may (or may not - I don't trust this test) be the most quiet of them all:
http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/3138/h ... dex13.html

So now I need to choose between Sapphire 5670 or HIS IceQ+ 5750...

Anyone wants to comment on my thoughts? :)

OK, HIS 5750 IceQ+ bought, I'll let you know how it works when it arrives...

I had HIS 5750 Icooler IV card, It stopped working so my retailer replaced it with 5750 Iceq+. this is more quieter than Icooler IV and it is much cooler. I overclocked it upto 850 mhz with memory clock set to 1420 mhz, and the temperature didn't rise more than 56 degree centigrade, we have average temperature of 39 degree centigrade here these days
