Sapphire HD 7750 Ultimate (Passive) CPU Cooler Clearance

Post by Oubadah » Mon Jul 16, 2012 3:55 am

Graphics Card: Sapphire HD 7750 Ultimate
Cooler: Noctua NH-U12P SE2
Motherboard: Gigabyte G1 Sniper M3
Case: SilverstoneTJ08-E

My concern is this cooler overhang on the back side of the card:

Here we see it installed fine with the larger NH-D14:

However, the difference is that the motherboard they are using has a redundant PCI-E slot between the CPU and the card.

My motherboard doesn't have that extra leeway, the GPU goes in the 'top' slot, closest to the CPU:

Any chance the Sapphire card will fit?

EDIT: Additional questions:

Does the HD 7750 have any bugs? Some searching hasn't revealed any significant bugs, but I thought I'd double check. I'm especially interested in potential issues with Displayport, power saving modes and zerocore. Idle consumption appears to be very low, any issues with aero?

Also, do these non externally powered cards put any kind of strain on the motherboard?

You might want to explore some of the short stature down draft fans:
Scythe Kozuti - Actual Height = 40mm - that I am fairly certain with fit - and given its size it isn't that bad. And if you ducted some external air to it, it might surprise you.
Perhaps the Thermalright XP 140 will fit

See also these under fan coolers that might work, especially the Noctua NH-L12 with a single underfan (SPCR was able to replace the 92mm stock underfan with a 120mm Nexus):

I'd sooner substitute the card than the CPU cooler. I can't find any comparable alternative passive cards available over here, and if I'm going to have active cooloing, I might as well go for the 7770. I'm told that this one is very quiet: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... _-14127664

The HIS iSilence looks quite interesting.
I've got on well with the Sapphire cards in general, but maybe the heatsink it a bit OTT for this card.

How about getting a fanned card and then adding an after market cooler... without the fans?
