Hi, does anyone know of any shorter than average 7870 videocards?

Need to squeeze into an old P150/Solo (10"/24cm clearance I think , havent measured it yet) though I may upgrade the case to a USB3 and with better intake

Ok so I know the new Geforce GTX 660 are short and frugal on power but they are expensive here, so does anyone know any 7870s that will fit into a Solo/P150?

Sapphire usually has shorter than average cards but not in 7870 flavour this time

Standard 7870 are 24.7 cm long (10" or 10.1"?).
At about the same speed and price nVidia cards like the Gainward (=Palit) 660 and Zotac 660 are 18cm and 19.1 cm long respectively, Point of View 660 is short, about the same as the other two.

10" = 254mm

Are you sure a 7870 wouldn't fit?
660 provides less performance, 660 Ti costs more.

What are your actual needs is the real question here. Depending on the game selection, you could easily get away with a 7850, some of which easily reach the 1 GHz the 7870s tout as their default clock. The 7850s are quite short (210-ish mm to the 7870's 240-ish) and perform well enough for most games, if you turn down the settings from Ridiculous to Nice.

I haven't seen any short 7870s, presumably due to the extra power components eating up more PCB. I have, however, been happily playing Dota 2 and Guild Wars 2 on Intel HD 4000.

I know what my needs are, hence particularly after a 2gb 7870 that is short enough for a P150/Solo

FYI, the clearance in an Antec P150/Solo is about 24cm.
7870 reference is 27cm, 7850 reference is about 24cm, so I really want a card of 23cm or less if such a 7870 exists.

I have a 2560 x 1440 screen so definitely need 2gb dram and more GPU power to run some games at maximum settings, as they look prettier when I do that which is partly why I play them.

I might get a 7850 but 7870s are a chunk faster and well priced currently to compete with the new Geforces.

78xx cards also overclock better than the Geforces so you are getting even more for your money, plus they save around 10w in long idle which is of use to me. Slightly increased load power is no concern.

All the 7870s Ive seen in online shops are reference length, does anyone know of shorter ones?

Aye aye cap'n! That resolution says it all, definitely 7870 or above.

Shortest I could find in my rounds was the MSI R7870-2GD5T/OC at 241 mm and power sockets sideways, not to the back. That's about 9.5".

Eyeballing it from http://www.silentpcreview.com/files/images/P150_review/Inside_finished_SPCR_0800.jpg, I would say it is doable! The standard full ATX mobo is 244 mm across, and since it can fit, so should a 241 mm card. HDDs might need some shifting around, depending on current setup.

How's that sound?

Sounds great, I think thats the only one from looking around, but that particular R7870-2GD5T/OC (with the "T") is hard to find and more expensive.

My best option seems to be upgrade my case to a 550D or Define R3 or similar, and put whatever I want into it.
