Any 2 slot coolers for after purchase mod of a 580 GTX?

They make noise, too.

Any 2 slot coolers for after purchase mod of a 580 GTX?

Post by boe » Sun May 12, 2013 2:26 pm

Hello,

I currently have a 580 GTX from Gigabyte. It is nice and quiet. I also have a 580 GTX from MSI which is nice and quite as neither has a stock cooler. The MSI only uses 2 slots. If I want to use my Gigabyte in SLI on this system I'll need to drop it from a 3 slot cooler to a quiet 2 slot cooler. Are there any good ones available?

There's only one aftermarket two slot cooler I know: the Scythe Setsugen 2, but it's limited by it's size and I wouldn't recommend it for a GTX 580. It's really more for a 650 TI/7870 class card.
Would a Thermalright HR-03 (with GF-100 bolt through kit) work?
You would have to use it wrapped around the back of the card. With a slow 120mm fan it is capable of cooling the card quitely.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I've very tight on space. The first slot is a 1x - I have my sound card there. My next 2 slots are used by my 2slot 580gtx. I have 2 slots free and then my last slot is my raid card.

You could try a Thermalright Spitfire, but that needs a lot of space, too. A new mainboard might be cheaper.
I bought a mainboard with a PCIe 16x slot closest to the CPU so it would fit in the case facing away from the CPU area.

Thanks - always tight on space.
I want my 1x sound card - say what you want about onboard sound but for gaming with lots of different sounds, I prefer the add on card.
I want my 4x SAS RAID card with 1GB cache - much faster than on board controllers.
I want two QUIET x16 video cards

Hard to find a card with enough slots that can handle two 3 slot video cards, 1 sound card and 1 SAS RAID card. I have been looking though :)
I have an i7 x990x CPU and this is my current motherboard. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/produc ... id=3450#dl

I could possibly get a new motherboard, a new case (9 slot), new sound padding for the new case, new fans for the new case, probably new memory for the new motherboard but that does seem like a costly solution.

You could try ebay for a used MSI GTX 580 cooler.
