They make noise, too.

Quietest card to run 2 monitors

Post by jackal2513 » Tue May 21, 2013 1:40 am

Hiya, I have a gaming card GTX 580 but its very loud at idle and i dont use games much any more. So I am looking for a card just to do my business related work and also work with photoshop. The quieter the better.

The only thing is I do run 2 monitors (one at 2560x1600 and the other at 1920x1200) so it has to be able to do that. Otherwise, I am happy to go and get an older card that is obselete if it means quiet.

I would be grateful for any recommednations. The Mboard is an Asus sabertooth so has a modern slot rather than anything ancient.

Hello,

any passively cooled (no fan noise) entry-level card should do for your intended task as long as you have some airflow in your case.

A short look at a price comparision site shows a number of Nvidia Geforce G210, Radeon HD5450 and HD 6450 cards which should fit your needs. Price should be around £20/25€.

Examples are "Zotac GeForce G 210 Synergy Edition passive", "PowerColor Radeon HD 6450 Go! Green" or "Club 3D Radeon HD 5450 noiseless Edition". (These cards have one VGA, one HDMI and one DVI connector. You might need an HDMI-DVI adapter to connect the second monitor if you want to avoid analog connections.)

Modern integrated graphics can do the job in many cases. No card is pretty silent, energy efficient, etc.
