Pretty set on a pair of new LG 4K monitors. looking for silent RX550. 2gb or 4gb, either way. no gaming.

Very few reviews out there for any of the RX 550s. Based on the little that's out there, the Sapphire Pulse looks to be the quietest on load. If all you are doing is 2D stuff, then the fan will be off for this card as well as some others.

Thanks, yes I was hoping to find one that would run without the fan. specs don't tell the whole story.

What CPU are you using? And which 4K - UHD (3840) or DCI (4096)? I think LG offers both.

For UHD the IGP on Haswell and later should be fine, just check the mobo has the necessary connectors.

With DCI you'll need Skylake and later.

It's an older PC - sandy bridge i7. was going to wait for 9th gen to replace it. I may try the Asrock RX 550 and see how it goes.

the monitor is 27" UHD.

If you don't mind Nvidia I think Palit has a Geforce 1050Ti that is fanless with a HDMI and displayport.

I haven't done it for a long time but you may want to look into whether dual graphics cards will work for you. Much easier (and cheaper) to find fanless UHD cards with single HDMI.

Lastly I think Artic has a fanless GPU cooler that maybe an option.

the LG monitors I was looking at support AMD Freesync. since I am not a gamer I wonder if that really matters?

there is also a fanless GT1030. I think MSI w/DP

There are several.

only the MSI 1030 has DisplayPort/HDMI. since I am using dual monitors that makes sense.
