The new "ATI All-In-Wonder RADEON 9600 PRO 128MB DDR 8X AGP RETAIL" (see Newegg's lising for images) has a tiny HSF, allegedly because of less heat production. It also has a TV tuner module on the same side of the PCB. My guess is that the Zalman heatpipe HS won't fit this design. Any suggestions on silent cooling?

Try the Arrctic Cooling VGA Silencer.

u know the heatsink on the zalman doesnt sit flat against the card, there is a pretty big space between the gpu and the outer heatsink, maybe 3/4 of an inch or so.

Hey guys. This is my first post, though I've been lurking for a couple of weeks. I'm happy to say that with a little research, some work and a few dollars my system is now getting close to that imperceptible threshold.

Anyway, the good news is that I've got a firsthand answer about your AIW 9600 question. I got my board on Friday, and installed the Zalman ZM80A-HP yesterday. It's been running like a champ for a day now with no troubles. There is no contact between the heatsink and the card (not even the TV tuner portion). My system temp decreased a little first, but after settling in has actually increased about 2 degrees. It's still acceptable, though, and much quieter.

Good luck with yours,
Emmett Lyman

You have the A model? Did you choose it for the price, or do you think it's better?

I did indeed get the A model. From what I've read, it is sufficient for just about any GPU but the 9800. According to the reviews, people have been very successful with them on the 9700, which runs hotter than the 9600.

Actually, I bought it before I did a lot of research, otherwise I would have opted for the more expensive C model. Certainly the extra cooling can't hurt, and the price difference is only about $5 at Newegg. Nevertheless, the A helps system noise considerably.

Good luck,
Emmett Lyman
