maybe for laying out a large build with lots of pictures and links, so folks dont comment while you edit it, until you sure it looks like you want...

easy way to preview sig lines. and for noobs to figure how to embed pictures without 5 post of "did this work?" "ok, hows this?"

also some sites hotlink errors dont show up till you refresh the whole post.

Seems like the main reason for it these days is for new posters to get in their (required) 3 posts so they are able to post links.
