E-3001 - VIA PV530
Hello,
has anyone tried this?
http://www.tx-team.de/pi6/pd60.html
It is based on Asrock Via PV530. Any idea how it competes with atom platform regarding video decoding?
Thanks

There are Atom boards with different features. Only the most recent ones have graphics on die. You should also compare with Zacate and/or Ontario AMD boards now that they're out.

I do not think this is an atom processor

It's not. I was answering this:
I think the only point of going with VIA now would be to save money. Is this device significantly cheaper than a comparable solution? I don't know. The board is cheaper but once you add a case and the seller's profit the offer may not be so attractive... how much are they asking for it?
I'm saying the "atom platform" as such doesn't have a decoding capability actually.kamelie1706 wrote:Any idea how it competes with atom platform regarding video decoding?

Re: E-3001 - VIA PV530
public price is 89€
the board with cpu can be found for less than 50€.
I was just wondering how the processor compete with atom outside the video ... could not find any comparison.

The CPU performance also varies from an Atom to the next.
VIA says it's an Esther. Assuming all Esthers are comparable, it's slower than most Atoms (and much slower at multithreaded applications). You can Google for Esther vs. Atom benchmarks.
But the price is interesting. I imagine Atom systems are more expensive for you. You could build one for about that price in Switzerland but it would be noisy and the video decoding capabilities would not be great. Then again I'm not convinced the PV530's capabilities are all that great either. You could buy a board and find out...

Thanks for the input
Here is some indication of performance found in geekbench:
- via pv530: 603
http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/342713
- atom d525 (intel board): average is 1350 (one example below)
http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/344982
- my reference for low cost build AMD sempron 140: average is 2350 (one example below)
http://browse.geekbench.ca/geekbench2/view/352652
From cpu point only, it seems to be equivalent to a single core atom.
Open question is still about the video decoding capability, in particular under linux environment ....

i was looking for more specs about AsRock PV530A-ITX mobo http://www.asrock.com/mb/VIA/PV530A-ITX/ and this was a first thread i stumbled upon aside link to 'Esther'.kamelie1706 wrote:I do not think this is an atom processor

Esther aka.C7 is a good old unicore chip based on C5 architecture and nothing to do with more contemporary Isaiah chip. It was quite popular in 2007 iir, but it's sad how no mobo manufacturer doesnt offer nothing on Isaiah 64bit architecture, and VIA relased their dual core versions with Nano 3000 series. And these chips could only be compared to older P3 architecture nothing similar to Atoms which even claim support for x86-64 and solution from same manufacturer on Intel NM10 costs only 20% more rather thou its expensive when i can buy FM1 mobo and A4 3300 chip for same price. And this chips are really equal power savers with their PowerNow but still capable for much more powerful tasks when needed (postprocessing 1080p60p etc)
