HP Elite 8000 SFF

On a whim, I snagged an HP 8000 Elite "USDT" (ultra small desktop) off ebay for about $350. This had the potential to be a really cool machine. It has a C2D chip, slim optical, notebook RAM, 2.5" HD, and an external brick power supply. Basically a laptop in a box... so it should be quiet, right?
No way. It has two 60mm fans that made the worst and loudest groaning, whirring noise I'd heard coming from a computer in quite some time. I replaced the 60mm CPU fan with some kind of Papst and that did tame the groaning sound a lot, but it was still insanely loud. Even hidden in the closet, I could still plainly hear it standing in the room.
It will be going back on ebay shortly...
