Building sff PC cont. - hardware advice

Post by dbuff » Sat Jul 12, 2014 4:55 pm

I've found CPU and mobo that I really like:
1. Intel Celeron G1820 Haswell Dual-Core 2.7GHz LGA 1150 54W Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics BX80646G1820 ~ $50

2. Gigabyte H81TN Thin mini-ITX ~ $90

I've also found a really cool and I think very good quality case:
3A. HD-Plex HD1.s ~ $190
http://www.hd-plex.com/hdplex-h1.s-fanl ... -case.html
I fell like I got carried away with the case, I just really love it, but I think it's an overkill - if I wanted to get it I feel that I should spend a lot more and upgrade CPU/mobo. I will probably do well with:
3B. M350 ~ $40

I still need other components. I'm thinking about:
4. 4GB RAM
5. Kingston Digital 120GB SSDNow ~ $66 (I'm not sure about this, too - maybe I just should get an HDD)

6. PSU ?

That's probably it. SO for I have my cost at $250-$400 RAM and PSU not included. It's my first time that I want to build a PC, so I'm not sure about other expenses (things like screws?, tools, thermal paste?, etc). Anybody who has ever build a PC please help me with your estimate as far as the total may go (not counting OS, of course).

What do you think? Thanks.

CPU:

Pentium G3220, just 10$ more

MoBo:

ASRock H81M-ITX, 30$ less, which leaves room for 8GB RAM or a different case.

The Gigabyte is thin itx, no need to pay more for thin.

That thin mini-ITX has onboard DC-DC though. No need for a PSU, just a brick. That said, I prefer ASRock mini-ITX + picoPSU myself.

dbuff, that HD-Plex is great, but expensive as you point out. Great if you want an all passive system, but perhaps not the easiest build for a first timer.
