Pyrotech prebuilt system, should i buy or not?

Post by mr.muscle » Sun Dec 07, 2003 8:36 am

hey all! my first post here, this forum seems really good, i´ve been looking around in this place and you guys seem to know alot about quiet computer systems.

now i wonder if you could help me.

i´m looking for a quiet/cool PC , i prioritise the soundlevel and how much heat a computer generates infront of speed. one other thing i prioritise is stability, i would like to have this computer running 24/7.

so i wonder if you guys could help me decide if this computer is a good choice. it´s from a swedish company called Pyrotech, they are specialised in making quiet systems.

and the computer i choose is this one: http://www.pyrotech.se/system_office.as ... ubMenuID=3

CPU: Intel Celeron 1.8GHz (maybe a 2.0GHz)
HDD: 30GB HDD 7.200 (a quiet one, a maxtor)
RAM: 256 MB DDRAM , 333MHz (not that much ram, but it´s enough for me)
CASE: Compucase LX6A21 (http://www.compucase.de/English/product116.htm)
+ Intergrated LAN, sound and graphics on the motherboard and a 2 years guarantee on the whole system.

i will ask them to change the 30GB drive to a bigger one, a 80GB.
remove the 52X cd-rom and put in a DVD-writer, not sure which one yet.

the price of this system (not the bigger HDD and the DVD-writer) is 4075 SEK which is 537,67 USD.

anyone who could tell if this system would be good choice for me.

thanks in advance :)

mr.muscle - WELCOME TO SPCR!!!

Dose this company do anything in particular to insure that this is a "quiet PC"? Do they use a quiet CPU cooling fan and case fans? Do they do any noise dampening to the case? What PSU do they use? The case they use is a good start for a quiet system but I see nothing else that points towards this being anything other than a normal computer, which would be anything but quiet.

What do you intend to use this computer for? A Celeron is not a particularly powerful CPU so depending on what you are going to do with this system may make you reconsider that choice.

What OS are you going to be running? If it's Windows XP I highly advise going with 512MB of RAM. 256MB is not really enough to let the OS breathe if you're going to be doing much with this system.

Thats WAYYY overpriced. At least compared to a dell. Which is what I would get if I wanted a fairly quiet and very cheap system. There is a dell now that is a 2.53ghz 512mb ram, 40gb HD with 17" monitor for $380. US (I think). Of course you live in sweden, so I dont know if dell ships outside of the US??? If they do I would get one from there.

Ralf Hutter: they put in a quiet case and cpu fan, and im going to use this system for linux, and 256 MB is plenty of memory under linux. i don´t know what psu they have in this box, but my guess would be a quiet one.

GamingGod: i´ve actually been thinking of buying a dell, but dell sometimes has very odd hardware in their systems, which only has Win drivers, so they could be alittle tricky to get working properly under linux. that $ 380 dollar systems seems alittle good to be true, any chance you could get me an link to that page?

if it's the stock PS, it is quiet!

Hello:

[quote="mr.muscle"] i don´t know what psu they have in this box, but my guess would be a quiet one./quote]

If they just used the stock HEC (Heroichi) PS of the Compucase, then yes, it is a quiet and good quality PS! I used that case with the stock HEC PS and as long as the case is well ventilated and cool, the PS stays very quiet. I *did* have to cut out the stock fan grills and I used two Enermax 120mm fans, but they are undervolted to ~4.5v and the system is very quiet. It has a passive Matrox G550 and an Alpha PAL-8045 with a thermally controlled Enermax 80mm...it's a Barton 2500+ oc'd a bit on an Asus A7N8X Deluxe, 512MB of Corsair PC3200, an 80GB 7200.7.
