True or false on watercooling

Post by munichkid » Tue May 11, 2004 2:02 pm

Is it true that you cannot get any cooler than ambient temp with a BASIC cooler ( pump, radiator, and fan) without either a peltier, chiller, or other refrigeration????

Seems logical to me that if the ambient temp is say 80°F you will NOT be able to go lower that that. Also considering the cpu heat adding , we'll say 10°F by the time it gets back to the radiator, the radiator will ONLY remove the 10°F at most.

All this being, I am contemplating water cooling BUT right now at idle I am about 16°F ABOVE ambient on the cpu and do NOT want to go through the expense.

Without some sort of water cooling device you can never break the laws of physics and get below ambient temperatures.

So without a MAJOR dent in da ol wallet area. I am screwed, huh>

Am I over reacting about a temp of 104°F on cpu and case of 95°F and am aboient of 86°F? It does get HOT in this room in summer. Up to 95°F ambient. I just want to make sure I have enough room for temps to climb.

Thanks for the help and advice

idle temps are next to useless, i suggest finding your max load temp, after e.g. a few hours of cpuburn. that is what you should be concerned about, becuase it will be the limiting factor on your system's stability and thus performance.

and yes what you suppose is true is true - with plain watercooling you won't get below ambient.

those temps are nothing to worry about. if you aren't overclocking you don't need watercooling. CPUs are fine at 50 degrees celcius.

That Asus mobo reports CPU temperatures low. Your CPU probably runs about 7C hotter than you think.

run prime95 torture test and if your pc doesn't fail then you are golden. if you want to overclock or silence more then that's a different story.

ambient temperatures affect watercooling temps alot more than with air cooling ive found in my opinion.the difference is water should be alot more quieter and if not you can always get a bigger radiator.
