Well don't forget, a MD-20Z has 23ft. head. Still though, your are correct, it probably would be overkill in this era. What I'll probably do is go with the Rev.3a layout with room to add the extra heatercores and fans for later on down the road if I feel I need the extra cooling power. I'm trying to make it rather future-proof. Besides, I'll be running a max OCed A64 and vid card, and maybe the overvolted mosfets too which *really* adds a lot of heat to the loop. Some of the vid cards alone can use wattages only CPUs used to be know for.

Oh yes, I'm looking forward to seeing this for real as well. I've been itching to go for a almost a year now lol . On the flip side, I've been able to refine the concept. I sure hope this quasi-green light doesn't turn back to red. Otherwise I'll have to wait til summer at least.

I would love to make it out of sheet metal, but I just don't have to tools. I was originally looking to just frame it up with 1/2" or 3/8" ply. But then I realized I was waiting a lot of space going with an exoskeletal approach. I have a lot of experience in RC aircraft, so I have no problem having a load bearing internal structure with a relatively thin outer skin/shell. Besides, the thinner wood would be easier to work with and the load bearing structure wouldn’t have to be considered aesthetically i.e. less work.

When I built my sisters box, I made an inverted U-shaped ½” plywood box to stand it on to elevate it from dust and such. I actually just used a jig saw and didn’t spend to much time on it. So that has my mom (I’m a residential college student) worried how this project is going to look (my parents are already worried about watercooling as it is) lol. So I’ll probably just use nice piece of birch for the skin/shell and stain it to match the computer desk it will be used on. If I decide to spend a bunch of time on it and go for bling, I may glass it (i.e. fiberglass, like RC, link) and make it matted black or something. Maybe throw in some modders mesh too.

Revision 4

This setup would allow the intake to be solely from the front, rather than the sides. I'm going to have to post over at procooling wether they think the airflow is just too restricted with the interior heatercores perpendicular to both the intake and extake airflow.

Edit: Link to the ProCooling post I just put in here.

Edit2: Apparently it would indeed be too restrictive airflow wise as per a guy on procooling, so I'm marrying Rev3 and Rev4 together. Behold Rev4b.
