Media Center PC - ZM-RESERATOR 1 Option, MUST Be Quiet.

Post by msreyes » Fri Apr 13, 2007 8:41 am

Here are my thoughs..... I would prefer to have my Media Center PC PC by my television.

I HATE noise.... drives me nuts!!! That is why I am here.

So exploring all the options out there.

So some questions to pass to the users here for your "expert" opinion.

Current Configuration
1. SilverStone Lascala SST-LC03 - http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.ph ... cid=CS.897
2. 3.06 P4 socket 478
3. ATI 9700 Video Card (hopefully it can do 1080p but that stuff in some stupid way confuses me a bit still so still exploring this).
4. One SATA HD.
5. DVD Rom
6. Fanless Power supply - http://www.digimatrix.com.au/?gOo=Z29vZ ... oodsid=705

My Thoughs....

So I was wondering if I added a ZM-RESERATOR 1 to my current configuration (connected to my CPU, ATI 9700 and get one cooling unit for the HD) I wonder if I would need a case fan still and how quiet things will be.

And wonder if it would be adequate.

Suggestions?

For that amount of money you could change to AM2 which will run much cooler (for example A64 X2 3600+, Asrock AM2NF6G-VSTA, DDR2); is your graphics card AGP or PCI-E?

AGP :)

And it is not that I am only concerned about being cool... I need it to be "cool enough". And QUIET!!!

Cool = quiet. Less heat = less fan rpms = less noise. The ASRock AM2NF3-VSTA takes AGP cards.

that system most likely cannot run 1080p

it has no hd hardware acceleration in it and the cpu is sub-par with dual cores that have a rough time with 1080p as it is!

I believe... that an x1300 card can run 1080p fine. might be something to look into. if not, any x1600 can do it.

zalman is what I love and use. I use the first version blue tower, the Res 1. the plus/version2 of it is basically the same thing just easier to work with. It would totally silence your box but you still need one exhaust fan for the mobo and chipset. everything needs some sort of flow, minimal, but some sort.
