I have a post about 3 years, now its nearing 4.

It still has only made a miniscule film of white on the Zalman tower metal, very tiny amount.

The pump is still silent. It has been running from between 36 - 42 C for just about 4 years now straight. I have turned it off several times for a week when I went on vacation. So it isnt that.

Secret to all motors is no friction. Motors in a frictionless world live long, WW knocked out friction.

"noisey pumps add some dish detergent" is not scientific proof that it is lubricating, it is only breaking surface tension. It actually might be making it more raw and LESS lubricated. The cohesion of water is what makes it lubricate, removing that makes this worse. The WW also adds lubrication, flat out slippery stuff that will not degrade.

Dish detergent degrades in heat, light and air. It is biodegradable. It also is designed to strip wax, which means it could also erode rubber. I will be probably using my Zalman tower with WW for 8+ years. Still, people will say its a bad combo, yet no one I have ever known has had a system with water last this long without changing a part (aside from waterblocks to fit VGA, original hoses still used, just one small section got added in a year ago as things had to lay differently for the newer setup)

also a response to someone who has little experience in water cooling in my older thread. read that one all so you dont just take advice of people running systems constantly breaking or costing money for no reason.

WWeter is bad / impossible to use if you use an acrylic resevoir. I wouldnt use one anyways, I would just get a stainless steel tank, use polycarbonate lexan, or if you are good in the chem lab, you can find really awesome chemistry glasswear that makes things look neat too.

mine is aluminum. There have been several people who use a zalman tower as their resevoir and still use a radiator connection attached to it. I think this is for people who have like quad core oc'd to 4 ghz and dual gpu cards. Kinda whacky dissipation needs.

I may see about using WW when I come to change the coolant in mine (using the zalman stuff).

Do you use it together with the coolant or in place of?

I have a dual reserator setup on mine. A Res 1 V2 with a pump in and then just a V1 that I was given with no pump installed.

How good zalman's liquid is.

Now, they are a very smart company so I couldnt tell you.

However, I can tell you that it is highly doubtful that any person has more pure water than me who has kept running this long with pure silence in the pump. I can say that I put less than a half bottle into the tank. Apparently, the reserator needs very little help keeping the oxidation out. Zalman has annodized almuminum, and makes things perfect. My success could be due to the fact that we are using the best equipment. I do remember how for the first year Zalman suggest just distilled water no additives. So, it was designed with non corrosive additives in mind, something no other was or is. They changed this as it was a bad idea for many, and some it was a great idea. So, probably 4-5 ounces of WW would be fine. I assume you have more water in your setup, half a bottle each fill I would use. It's cheap too and easy, no ordering, just an autoparts store and a grocery store for steam distilled water.

God might be on my side, so supernatural things could be the reason. never really know. it might be a tad miraculous. I mean it is an eheim 300 lasting in a hot environment silent for years working.

NOW: for your 2nd tower design... wow. you are my idol. I didnt know that would even work. You could do dual high end gpus with that setup easily. That is a LOT of water and radiation surface area.

Yes I obviously have more water in my system with having two towers.

I noticed today while taking the bottom off one of the towers that there is a lot of blue deposits and gunk from the zalman coolant so maybe it isn't birlliant?!

I have installed a bit of pipe inside each tower that makes the water come out at the top of the tower rather than flowing in at the bottom near the pump.

In regards to temps my Q6600 runs at 35c idle and the 8800GTX with waterblock runds at 44 c idle and then they go up to about 45c full load on CPU and 55c GPU.

yeah having 2-5% additive, better lubrication for fish pumps/silences them, works for 5 years with same pumps...

yes the smell is not good. I also seal up my systems for the most part.


I also do not use clear plastic reservoirs, this is not the greatest idea in the first place for many reasons for longevity. This is the only component WW does not do well with.

Bottom line is: silence ='s better heatsink, less or no fans. Better heatsink on air is huge blob of copper with widely spaced fins. Better heatsink in WC is .... not the heatsink, but the HEATSINK. A WC setup uses WATER as the heatsink. Water is multiple times better in terms of heat capacity to any additive. THose pre-bought coolants are always a higher % of antifreeze than 2-5%. The more water, the bigger your heatsink and the less fans you need, or in my case, gaming at 1920x1200 with full eye candy with No fans interfacing with the WC setup.

going to be 5 years WW this spring. the inside of the Reserator has a little white build up here and there, nothing that is thick enough to not see the blue underneath, but really, 5 years with any setup would have some precipitates somewhere. Being that this has no effect on cooling or outside looks, it never phased me.

Plug up the top air hole for a better effect. that is where odors occur. Also note that anti-freeze is toxic, it just does not make a noticable odor. You can use food grade propylene glycol. THis is the best to use when cooling is already above what you need (your temps are below 55C on load). THis is similar to ethylene glycol except that it cannot harm you.
