cpu + gpu all cooled by a gts 240

Hi all
I was wondering if it would be possible to cool a core i7 860 and a radeon 5870 all in a single loop all with a HW gts 240...
the thing is that the rad I've already got it, and was thinking of making the pc a little bit more quiet, as the radeon is quiet at iddle (it makes a little hum as soft as the HDD, which is a WD green EADS) but when playing its really noticeable.... so I was thinking of adding it to the loop of the CPU....
so the question is... is the GTS 240 going to be able to handle the cpu and the gpu ???
thanks in advance guys...

It should be enough, kind of depends how cool you feel comfortable with it being.
It really depends on what fans you are running on it as well.
20mm, 25mm, 38mm?
Pull, push/pull?

Hi
the fans are going to be 2 slipstream in pull config...
also another question as the motherboard and cpu have not been bought...
which is better..
a x58 motherboard and a I7 920 or a p55 motherboard and a i7 860...
regarding cooling is there gonna be any difference... ???
thanks in advance guys

It will work, just don't expect exceptional temps or good overclocks. A high clocked i7 really needs a 3x120 radiator by itself.

Well... just for your reference I'm watercooling an i7 and 5870. My loop setup is as follow using Artic Cooling F12 fans;

Swiftech (ST) MCP655 -> ST GTX -> ST MCW-NBMAX -> Black Ice (BI) GTS120 -> ST Komodo -> ST MCW30 -> ST MCR220 -> BI GTS120 -> MCP 655.

For 2 x 120mm and 1 x 240mm rads, here are my temps with a room temp of around 30+ degree celcius.

Idle (i7 @ 2.4Ghz / 5870 @ 157/300Mhz / rad fans @ 1.1 to 1.2K rpm)
i7 cores: 44 to 48c
5870 gpu/vrm: 40/44c

Prime95 load test (i7 @ 4Ghz / 2 fans @ 1.4k rpm)
i7 cores: up to 72c

Furmark load test (5870 @ 900/1250Mhz / 2 fans @ 1.4k rpm)
5870 gpu/vrm: 52/78c

Dirt 2/MW2 test (i7 @ 4Ghz / 5870 @ 900/1250Mhz, 4 fans @ 1.2 to 1.4k rpm)

i7 cores: up to 52c
5870 gpu/vrm: 50/60c

These results are far from impressive and we're talking about twice the number of rads. The x58 chipset does not dump a lot of heat compared to the CPU and GPU, too, so I'm not quite sure it's wise to use just a GTS240 for the job. You should consider the thicker GTX, Feser TFC or XSPC RX with poweful fans if you still insist in running a single 240mm rad.

So basically all you have is 2 gts 120, when I want to use a single gts240...
although I know that the temps are not going to be the best, all I want is to keep everything cool and quiet... so I think your temps are a guideline to what I might get... except I'm not going to cool the chipset, so I might shave a degree or two...

Correction. I've two GTS120 and a MCR220 for roughly 480mm rad cooling capacity or two times the GTS240. You can still give it a go but I believe your setup will probably end up hot and quiet instead.

oh true... I missed the MCR220... but anyways I think I'm gonna give up on cooling the cpu and the vga, and stick with just cooling the cpu with the gts...
thanks anyway for all your help!
