Shut down pump every night ?

Post by Mihnea1231 » Sun May 09, 2010 12:00 pm

Hello

I would like to know if it's good to shut down the pump (i have a Reserator) every night, to make the pump last longer and save electricity. Or maybe is it bad for the pump ?

Thanx

Do not shutdown the pump if the PC is on however!

WC pumps are made for 24/7 operation. It shouldn't hurt the pump to turn it off though.

Most quality water pumps are rated for 50,000 hours MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) equivalent to 5 years lifetime. Generally, it should not matter whether the unitis on or off, except that among electronics certain components fail with specific events. For example, switches usually fail during the on/off cycle, high heat condition, or ESD. But these circumstances are statistical outliers.

Energy consumption considered, you may as well turn off when not in use.
