I plan to switch to water cooling for my CPU and video card. So the noise produced by my new pump will replace that from the fans on the CPU and the video card, and I'm hoping for less noise.

I'm looking at Danger Den DD-CPX1. Does any one here has experience with this pump? I'm wondering how quiet is this pump. How does it compare to a small video card fan (nVidia 9500GT: 55mm fan runs at high speed)? And what kind of noise does it make? Thanks in advance!

If that's not a good choice, any suggestions?

I don't have any experience with that pump, although it would have to be pretty bloody noisy to be louder than a video card! :)

I have a D5 vario with EK top, and I find it very quiet (on full!). My HDDs are louder (I have 3, and they are old). The vario also had an easy way to change the speed (and noise) if you find it too loud.

Alternatively, you might want to try a MCP350 -- its the slower version of the MCP355, and is supposed to be quiet. Whichever way you go for a pump, you need to ensure its completely de-coupled from the case, otherwise it will vibrate and be loud. I usually just hang my pump from the tubing (but make sure the tubing is tight and clamped!), others use various soft mounts.

The noise from a pump is basically the same sound as a fan motor (which it is very similar to). Of course, the quality of the pump will make a big difference to the sound!

EDIT: Have a look at this thread, and if you go with the CPX make sure you post your results there! http://www.silentpcreview.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=53938

Oh and this thread, I knew it had been discussed!

I'm using an EK DCP 2.2, which is, I believe, an update version of that DD (Jingway) pump, with slightly lower L/Hr and slightly increased head pressure ratings.

On the EK site: http://www.ekwaterblocks.com/shop/pumps ... -pump.html

I'd say the soud rating is pretty accurate, and is much, much quieter than a 55mm fan.

Silly question: for the expense of water cooling you can purchase a decently powerful video card with a quieter fan. Why not do that instead?

edit: cheapest I can find for a full WC kit that will cool GPU + CPU quietly is in the ~$300 range. Granted, that will handle three or four upgrades, but an MSI GTX460 with the excellent Cyclone cooler goes for $230, and superb CPU heatsinks may be had for >$50. In other words, you can upgrade your PC performance and get quieter for cheaper on air.

Unless you're a specialist or a dedicated hobbyist, H2o cooling doesn't make much sense in your case.
