Beli ninja's system improvement
Hi there! My first topic so greetings to all and thank you for any replies.
I would appreciate any advice on this system.
CPU: Intel E6750
MB: Gigabyte P35-DS3 Rev.1
RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2x1GB PC2-6400
GPU: GeCube X1950XT 256MB
HDD: Seagate 7200.10 320GB
PSU: Tagan Easycon TG430-U15
DVD: Optiarc AD-7203S
Case: Antec Solo
Rear Fan: Noctua NF-S12-800
I am having trouble with noise. After stooping all available fans the main candidates are: the PSU fan and the GPU fan (I replied on a similar topic concerning the PSU). I plan to change the GPU fan with the Accelero S1 (passively) and replace the PSU fan with one of the recommended 120mm fans. I am also thinking of replacing the CPU fan but don't know what to choose. Passive or active, and if active blowdown or parallel. This is connected with my chipset temperature.
Idle temp (Noctua @ 1200rpm)
CPU 32C
chipset 45C
HDD 43C
GPU 70C
Idle temp (Noctua @ 800rpm)
CPU 32C
chipset 48C
HDD 45C
GPU 67C
Is the chipset temp too high? If I install the S1 I'm guessing the temperatures will go up. If I put a blowdown heatsink it will cool the chipset and RAM better but how will it effect the noise since there will be 2 big fans drawing the air out of the case near it. And so on.... too many options to write
Thanks

Does anyone have any experience with Antec Solo + Scythe Ninja + Gigabyte P35-DS3 Rev.1 combination? Or Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme (instead of Ninja). I did read about some problems with Ultra-120 and the Solo case. And I would like to keep the airflow mostly horizontal. On the other hand, I am not sure if Ninja would fit (see my first image). Thanks
I just did the P150 with an EarthWatts 380 with the Ninja passively cooled on a Biostar TF-7050 M2. Seems to work OK, idle temps are around 30*C, load temps around 38-40*C for an Athlon X2 4600+. I was fairly pleased, and yes, everything fits fine. I didn't even do MikeC's mod to cordon off the PSU to just the upper bays.

I have the Solo with a ninja installed on a E6750 with the Gigabyte motherboard, and it a very succesfull combination. You should also try and undervolt you CPU, that way it will be much easier to cool the CPU. I droped the voltage from the stock 1.35V to 1.2V and have experienced no stability problems.
I have an AC Accelero installed on my 8800GT with no active fans, and the temps stay in the low 60s when gaming.
Exhaust is a Scythe S-Flex 1200rpm @ 5-7V, so its running at around 600rpm.
The PSU is a Corsair 520W

you don't notice much difference between 6750 and 8400. There's much more difference in 1900XT vs. hd 38x0... including power draw.
However HD 4670 seems to be quite equal with HD 3850 in games. So you may want to consider HD 4870 and get rid of PCI-E cable... HD 3870 is very fine choice and has already ram and VRM sinks in most models in place.

well I managed to swap the PSU fan with a SlipStream without getting electrocuted. I also changed the Noctua with a SlipStream. for now I like it but unfortunately I didn't document the temps before swapping stuff today. now I just have to decide between Xigmatek and OCZ Vendetta2. Xigmatek is in high demand here so they are ot of stock and it's unknown when the new shipment will arrive so I'm very inclined to the OCZ. any reason not to take it?

well, I believe I'm getting close to my goal. the latest addition is the OCZ Vendetta 2 with a SlipStream 500 fan. my CPU temps have decreased by 3 degrees celsius but my HDD and MB temps have increased by roughly the same amount. my next task is to try and direct the airflow in the case with some modifications like closing some gaps in the case, sorting the cables etc.
here are some pics, hope it proves useful to someone considering any of the mentioned components. feel free to ask for any details or more detailed pics

couple of days ago I played something on my rig and I realized that my passive x1950xt reached 130 C on the voltage regulators. so I tied a SlipStream on it and it worked like a charm. I think it reached around 70 C on load.
as a side note, the slipstream blocked SATA channels 0 & 1 on my gigabyte MB.
after this episode I decided it was time for a change, so I got a 4670 and mounted the accelero S2 and a slipstream500 onto it. I'm just thrilled with it. my room is at around 22C and my card is at around 30C
