Anyone have good results with P4 2.8C?

Post by MortySnerd » Mon Aug 02, 2004 9:54 am

I'm thinking of upgrading from a 1.8A (50 watts of heat) to a 2.8C (70 watts of heat).

I currently use a SLK-900 with a 92mm Panaflo L running at 12 volts. This is cool and quiet enough for me with my 1.8. I can hear it, but I don't mind it, I idle at about 36C and load at about 42-44C.

Case is a fully stock Antec Sonata with few cables or PCI cards inhibiting airflow. Video card is a lowly Ti4200.

Has anyone else had any luck with the 2.8C under similar conditions? I don't think there are better heatsinks than the SLK-900, are there? The 20 extra watts of heat seems significant. I'd rather not add any more noise than I have now. I would describe my setup as having a very, very subdued "Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" and I'd like to keep it that way. Thanks!

IIRC, SPCR's own Ralf Hutter is using a P4 3.0C with the exact same heatsink and fan. His case is different though, but I expect that you will achieve equally excellent results with a 2.8C.

I've been running my 3.0C with an SLK900/92mm L1A for the past 10+ months with perfect results. I need to run the fan around 8V to cool the CPU enough when it's real hot in here. The 2.8C has almost the same power consumption as the 3.0 so you should be in fine shape.
