Hunting Athlon64 Motherboard with Cool and Quiet Capacity

Post by sdliddo » Wed Oct 13, 2004 11:50 am

Hi. I really am considering buying the Althon64 because of the Cool and Quiet tech its supposed to have. But I recently learned NOT all motherboards support this system. I have three mobos which I am considering right now.

Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP
Asus K8V Motherboard
MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R Mobo

Can someone tell me if any of these motherboards DO make use of the Cool and Quiet tech? I really NEED that system as my usual room temperature soars to 40-50C anytime I leave the house. With this in mind, my computer will most likely run temperatures more or less along that line as well. Not a good thing to do but I am planning on using my computer almost 24/7.

I cant afford water cooling since its an expensive option. Not to mention pielter(?) electric cooling solution. The power it uses to cool a cpu is big.

I really just want to make sure since I will be ordering them from a computer modz specialty store. And they're not going to just let me return a mobo so easily. And even still, I do want to make sure first.

I did. I just checked on the AMD site but i was pretty much surprised to see all the full atx boards or most of it seem to NOT have the cool and quiet tech. Only the micro boards seem to have THEM which is not going to help me since I am searching for a full atx board. :)

The reason I am asking is IF anyone is currently using these boards to offer me some input on it. I've emailed AMD and so far no email from them yet.

My new board has it.

DFI LANParty UT nF3 250Gb.

This is a Socket754 mainboard--depending on the core of the CPU you put on it, you may or may not have to flash the BIOS when you receive it in order to get decent temp. reports.

However, Cool n' Quiet is definitely one of this board's fully functional features.
