Silent Barebone, any suggestion ?

Post by tommytao » Thu Oct 21, 2004 7:16 pm

i'm using Shuttle SS56G barebone.

It's good , but its sound is audiable and not silent enough.

I wanna know any silent barebone suggest ?

i found this: http://www.cappuccinopc.com/expandoe5.asp

but it's not available in Hong Kong.

Any big band has similiar "no fan" feature ?

Thank a lot.

Though it's not barebone, the Hush PC is fanless.

there's a lot you can do to make your shuttle quiet - what components do you currently have installed? what hard drive(s) are you using, what processor, what video card, etc?

that particular model has shuttle's older and louder power supply and the stock fan on the ICE cpu cooler is very loud and spins way faster than it needs to. your hard drive(s) and your video card may also be creating much more noise than necessary. the other thing i have noticed about the shuttles is that the quality of the sound is terrible - high pitched whining - you can definitely eliminate that and make it much quieter.

I made a QBic barebone for my suster and was very impressed with it for quietness - can you obtain those? Supplied by Soltek I believe....

If not post back more info - SFF can be quiet, but is probably harder work and needs more realistic targets (IE not silent)
