Silent motherboard?

Post by Markp.com » Mon Nov 29, 2004 3:57 pm

I need to upgrade my motherboard soon, I've recently gone through and silenced all the noisey bits of my current machine, so I don't want to put in a motherboard that has one of those tiny noisey fans on it!

Any idea which motherboards will be quiet, or which can have fans swapped for heatsinks etc?

Just look at the picture of the board. If there is a fan on the northbridge, it is probably noisy. What you want is just a heatsink on the northbridge.

Also there are passive NB heatsinks (I think Zalman has one) and you can use those to replace the HS+fan. Not sure how they are attached and which mobos they will fit on, I think they need holes to screw in? (Correct me if I'm wrong?)
