I have Outlook 2003. There is an option for showing a mail alert, which shows up near the right hand bottom of the desktop. However, it only shows for 20 seconds at the maximum. Does anyone know of a way in Outlook to set it so the message alert stays visible until you take action?

Also, has anyone heard of the software "MailAlert"?

That's what I wanted too. I haven't seen a way to do it, but can't say I dug around enough to see if that was really possible. So I just setup a message rule to display a "New Item Alert Window". That way if I'm away from my desk and an email comes, I don't sit there for 30 minutes before I notice it.
