Cooling an old system
Hey everybody at SPCR,
I've got a old Pentium 4 computer but it has thermal problems. My friend got an identical computer like me only his CPU core temperate isn't 50 when idle and 63 when playing battlefield 2, nor is his motherboard. These high temperatures annoy me as my game gets very glitchy after 20 minutes and the sound of my fans aren't making it better. So I decided to look how my friend cools his PC. He had an exhaust fan and a CPU fan, so after that I hooked up some fan from a PSU as an exhaust fan and started playing Battlefield 2, well after 2 hours of play my temperates were about 10 degrees lower then what I first had. From 63 to 54/53 loaded and mobo was about 40 and thats exactly what I wanted but the fan that I hooked up isn't really being a friend with my ears.
I know my friend has a Scythe S-Flex case-fan and I really like that one, just that I nor he knows what model he is using. So my question now is would a Scythe S-Flex 800 be enough to cool my system (see below) or should I get the 1200 rpm version. I would like to get the same results as I had with that fan I got from my PSU. Maybe there are better fans out there of any other method to keep my PC cool and silent.
My system is:
Asus P4P800
Intel P4 2,4ghz (c)
Nvidia 6600GS
1GB Kingston PC3500 DDR HyperX
300GB Hitachi HDD
I hope I'm not asking too much from you
And if you haven't noticed I'm new here

Yeah, most stores also sell wire fan grills.SirAlex wrote:That I will do, but is there any way to replace that grill with another, so that I won't leave an ugly hole there :p
